Default 2 weeks of motherhood

2 weeks of motherhood going well. I posted a couple of weeks ago about our Papillon who had a liter. It was tough on her and she did not want anything to do with her pup. You mentioned because maybe the mom was young. I am happy to report after 2 days of birth the mom has been doing a great job.

My question to you all here since we have only one pup in the liter, who has the right to it, the male owners or female owners? I know if we had more than one, the male owners pick one from the liter.
Also we had vet fees from the delivery because the female could not push anymore.

thank you

Ly and Phil

That is something that you and the owner of the stud dog need to figure out... what does the contract say? Many times there is a clause for small litters/singletons. Good luck!

You may be able to pay the stud fee instead of giving them a puppy.

Well, we are not professional breeders and did not have a contract made up. It is our neighbor papillon and it happen. I thought there was a guide or protocol..

Generally when using a stud, the stud owner notes option of a fee or pick of litter. As there is only one pup the stud owner may request a fee or the pup. Until you talk to the neighbor there is no real way to note what he/she is expecting.
Mine are now 3 weeks old. My Papillon had 3 pups in the litter and in my case I own the sire and dam.

Its either you pay the stud owner or you give them the dog even if you only have one litter. If you want to keep the litter then i think you should talk with the stud owner if you can just pay them some money...

USUALLY with stud dogs for small breeds, the rule is that a litter consists of 2 or more live puppies, and if there is only one live puppy, you pay a stud fee and the next breeding is free, but if you do not wish to breed again in the future, just tell them (since there is no contract, they cannot force you to give them the pup) that you will give them a $100 stud fee or a price that you will agree on, but if the stud is not a ch, its usually only $100-300 Stud fee.

So see if they wont take $100-$200 and you keep the pup.

there is no contract, so legally you do not owe them the pup, it needs to be agreed upon.
