Default Breeding time!

I'm pretty psyched. My boxer's had a few heat cycles and I wanted her to have a litter before I spay her. I have a friend who has a boxer that's almost a purebred. I think he said he's about 7/8 boxer but wasn't sure if I could sell the pups and call them 'boxers'. Is there a point where you can get them back to a purebred status? Or should I just seek out a pure boxer with papers? She's a great dog and she looks like she'd have nice puppies. Thanks!

If you don't breed pure there will always be the risk of a throw back. The pups will be boxer crosses.

If you go for a good quality stud dog from a responsible, knowledgeable owner you will have to pay but you are not simply paying for the genetic material - you are paying for the service of an experienced owner who will do his/her best to keep your dog calm and safe through the mating and you should also have the assurance that the dog is genetically sound t(not just healthy) and free from canine STI's.

Please don't be misled about the risks to your girl in breeding her. There is so much that can go wrong. Do make sure you have ample financial provision to cover any vets bills that may arise and that you have the time and energy to raise the pups should something untoward happen.

Exactly how old is the dog? What genetic tests have been done? Simply put, based on your post, you are not ready to begin even thinking of breeding. I suggest you find a book on your breed, study it.Next find a book on breeding specific to your breed to understand the risks and what you need to know should something go wrong. Failing in this you not only run the risk of losing the pups but the dam as well. Breeding is not something one just does because they want a pup or think it will make the dog better. It is something that takes time and research along with assistance from a mentor, preferably one who is a Boxer breeder.

Unless u are fully prepared and you will be having full blooded boxer pups i wouldnt risk breeding ur female. I know puppies are fun and cute but for every puppy born 10 are put down in a shelter. If u are determined to breed please dont take it lightly. Make sure u have the help of an experienced breeder and have had all the proper testing for ur dog. Good luck!
