where to find trusted breeder in my area
I've a 5 year old Golden Retriever and I would like to find a mating partner for him. I've done a google search, and contacted a few local breeders without any success. I'm looking for either a pure bred Poodle or Golden Retriever for us...thank you in advance for any information!
P.S. I'm in St. Louis

My first question as a former breeder would be what knowledge do you have about breeding? Also why would you be looking for a Poodle to mate him with if he's a GR?

First of all - why do you want to put him to stud? You say you have not had a positive response from the breeders you have contacted - why is that? Breeders who have seen your dog or photos of him will be much better placed to comment on his suitability as a stud.
Aside from appearance - has he been hip tested? Is he in good health? Does he have a good temperament? How old is he?
It may be that you have not had the response you want because the experienced breeders who have seen him have judged him to be unsuitable.

I've only contacts breeders with my information stating that I would like to find a partner for my dog. I have not sent in any pictures at all. I've sent my info and asked what I need to do, and have received no response at all. I bought him from a farm in Ohio and I live in St. Louis now, so I can't contact the original breeder for anything really. I would be more than happy to upload some pictures here if you like! Chubbs is 5 years old, no history of hip problems in his family, temperment is very good, and he is in perfect health.

I'm not looking to become a breeder...I have a great dog, and I would like to carry on his bloodline. Goldendoodle puppies don't shed, and my sister wants one...
these are two pictures

The owner of a good quality bitch will want proof that he is in good health including hip scores from your vet, not just reassurances from yourself. You need to research the breed and find out what health tests are required for your breed.
If you have never bred before you need help from an experienced breeder. You need to see what is involved in supervising the mating. No one is going to want to trust their treasured pet or valuable show dog to someone who has never been involved in mating before.
If you want people to take you seriously as a breeder learn about your breed and find a breeder who will mentor you. Show your dog and get an objective opinion on his quality and suitability as a show dog.
It is a fallacy that cross bred poodles do not moult. Some have a poodle coat and some have the coat of the other breed.

thanks
I'm obviously mis-informed on this subject. I was just wanting to know if anyone knew of a local breeder that I could speak with. I'm not looking to become a breeder myself, and I know that I'm not educated on any of the proper guidelines or techniques. I just love my dog very much and would like to raise one of his puppies. That's all I want

No responsible breeder will except your dog as a stud when you have no paper work stating he has the minimum of hip certs or health and genetic testing not just from him but his bloodline as well. Further more why would you want to produce mix breed/designer dogs when there are so many in the shelters who need homes. I live an hour outside of St.Louis and can tell you that good, responsible and ethical breeders in that city are few and far between. I had to go all the way out to Wright City for my Akita and it took me 3 months to find her.
I seriously suggest you reconsider. Even though your dog would be the stud you still have a responsibility to make sure that not only your dog has had all of the proper testing done but his parents and at the very least grandparents as well. Since you can't contact the breeder you got him from I don't see how that would be possible. Let me also add that when I was breeding I required updates on my pups for the first year and it was stated in my contract that I was to be notified of any change of address or phone number of the owners. Also most reputable breeders sell their pups on a spay/neuter contract. This means the dog has to be fixed generally by 6 months of age before any AKC paper work is given. From what I can tell none of this is the case with your breeder which makes me have to question how responsible and ethical she was and if all the proper health and genetic tests were done. I don't mean to offend you simply stating what I know from personal experience!

Aside from the ethical implications of breeding that Reeskujo has touched on, you say your reason for wanting to mate your dog is so that you have a puppy from him. `I am sure he is a lovely dog with good manners and well cared for. Why bring a whole litter into the world so that you can have just one pup? Why not get a pup from a shelter, one that has already been born and rejected and give that pup the chance of a great life with an experienced owner such as yourself. The training and upbringing you have given your dog has played a huge part in making him the dog you love. Surely you could love another pup just as much if it was not related to him? Please think about a rescue.

Will have to tell you of my experience with adopting a rescue dog! My Corky--a Cocker/Golden Retriever mix had to be put to sleep 8 months ago on this 10th day of the month. He missed his 12th birthday by 3 days, I had him since he was about 3-4 months old. I loved that dog and went looking for the same mix to try and replace him the best I could--I knew there would never be another Corky but I wanted just even a little reminder of him. I could go into a lot more detail here but to keep this short(er!)---I finally found the same mix--about 2 months ago! She is an older dog. It seems like she has always belonged here already and I love her as much as My Corky. Don't get me wrong--I will always love and miss Corky but you can grow to love another dog too. One can never replace the other dog but that doesn't mean you will never love another dog as much--just differently but still with as much love.
I love Goldens too--Golden Retriever/Cocker Spaniel mixes for sure. Your dog is pretty but I love all pics I see with Goldens in the mix! And it isn't just the looks but their mannerisms/characteristics.
