Unhappy American Bulldog Vs Great Dane: Yikes.

Okay so around a month ago I was walking my great dane and my great dane lab mix when I came across a little puppy shivering by the trash. I quickly sent the boys in and picked it up. It had no collar so I took it inside, shut the boys in the bedroom and sat her on the couch. I worked out that she was a female and asked around my neighbourhood to see if anyone had lost her. The next day we checked if she was micro chipped and she wasn't. I put up a poster saying "I have your puppy" with my phone number on it. No one called. On closer inspection it turned out that two of her legs were broken and not mended properly, so out of anger I tore the poster down and decided to keep her.

I'm fairly certain she's an American Bulldog. She has a similar face and body shape. I wasn't sure of her age but I thought at the time that she was around 5-6 months old. Everything was fine, we bought her the puppy food and she settled down fine with the boys. I was certain that it was an impossibility that the Great Dane could impregnate her, but something has occurred.

Basically I'm FAIRLY certain she is pregnant. I have spoken to a number of vets, though I haven't SEEN any yet, and they've said that she's in heat, but I tend to disagree. She bled about 3 weeks ago, and the swollen teats and vulva were supposed to come a week after, but I'm sitting here looking at her now, and she's swollen.

The thing that is confusing me, is if it was the Great Dane, then, uh, HOW? And is it possible that she was pregnant before I even picked her up from the dumpsters?

I plan to take her to the vet, but I need to know the chances of her survival if the pups do turn out to be the Great Dane's.

Will this kill my puppy?

If you picked her up less than 6 weeks ago, it is possible that the pregnancy is from another dog. If it's been longer than that, I would say no. A great dane can impregnate an american bulldog. If you feel that the dog's life is in danger due to the pregnancy then you can go to the vet and have the pregnancy terminated. Having a C-section done on your dog because the puppies are too big could run you $2000. I would recommend getting all of your dogs fixed unless you are showing them. 60% of all dogs born get sent to a shelter and half of those never get adopted. They get euthanized because we have more dogs than we do people to adopt them.

Is everything ok? Did you take your pooch to the vet to see if she is pregnant? If she is, I can't wait for you to have the ultrasound done so we can see how many she is going to have (if it is too far along to terminate the pregnancy).
