Default Little torn

I am a boxer breeder from tn looking to add a new bitch but I have a to decide with in a week if I want to raise the a pup or get a proven bitch.

The adult bitch is already temperament tested hips have been checked as well as her heart.

The pup is beautiful.

Not sure if i want to raise a pup or get the adult.

Both are AKC

I guess it would depend on how soon you're wanting to produce a litter for starters..With a puppy you'll have to wait until she's 2 yr.s old so she's not only old enough to breed but so that her hips can be checked and get their OFA cert as well as whatever other health testing you do..Has the bitch produced any litters yet? Do you own the sire you want to use for breeding?

When I was breeding Akita's I always preferred to use my own bitches that I raised..That way I've known what their temerament and health has been from the start but that's just my preference..

In my personal opinion, I'd always go for the puppy because I want to raise the dog myself.

Raising a puppy to be your dog's bitch for me creates a bond not only to me, but for the whole pack. I trust what I raise because I did it.

On the other hand, if you want fast results, you can go for the adult bitch. It's always up to you.

All you need to do is weigh in the situations. Know the Pluses and negatives before taking a choice.

I guess what would concern me is what would happen if the pup does not fulfil her potential - if two years down the line you find she is not suitable for breeding in whatever way.

If you are looking to improve your breeding line and first and foremost you need a bitch to breed form then the adult is the way to go - I don't mean that you won't love her as a pet as well but your reason for buying a dog is to breed.

If however you are looking of a dog to add to your family and intend to enjoy her for who she is regardless then get the pup.
