One of our dogs, Maizie is from the Pound, which I consider a rescue. She is the best dog. She is sweet, gentle, affectionate and obedient. She was six months old when we got her. She was found wandering (and I believe that, because she got out of the house, despite our best efforts 9 times in the first two weeks we had her.) Probably a Border Collie. The other came from a pet store, and is older. My son's dog is from the dog pound, too. She is a great dog (10 or 12 weeks when we got her).
We know someone who works for a rescue group. The dogs are just great, and they are very appreciative of the homes they acquire. I was apprehensive about getting a dog from the pound or a rescue dog, because I thought they were dogs that would be difficult to train, or had behavior issues. I have come to learn that is most often not the case, rather, the owners did not have the understanding to own a dog, or were unwilling to devote the time or energy, which amounts to the same thing. For those who are reluctant to go to the dog pound - you could save a great dog, and there are a lot of 4 or 5 month old puppies who have ended up there due to absolutely no misconduct or bad deed. |
