What kind of dog food do you buy?
I normally buy Ol, Roy but sometimes if I find a sale then I will switch brands. Is that ok to switch brands of dog food? MY dog will eat anykind just fine, she seems to really like the Ol, Roy the best tho.

I buy Purina Pro Plan. You are not supposed to switch brands of food. Thats really bad for your dogs digestive system. Ol Roy is not good for your dog either. LOL I used to buy it until I read the ingredients & found out what they really are. Its really disgusting when you think about it. Thats why I buy Purina Pro Plan. Its not really that much more expensive & its better for your dog.

Abrupt food changes can cause digestive upset. If you want to switch brands it's best to do so gradually over a period of about 1-2wks.

OK thanks I had no idea that this would hurt my little gracie if i switch again I will do it gradually over a couple weeks. What do you do just mix a little in with there regular food? I have done this before if she dose not like it she will pick through the food and eat what she likes its so funny.

Yes, you're supposed to add it to her regular food & take out a little of her regular food until she's eating nothing but the food you are switching to. But it's really best to just stick with one kind of food.

Yes that is what I have learned I am thinking about buying the Purina Pro Plan like you buy the next time. Can you get that at Walmart? Or do you have to buy it from a pet store? I normally buy the 20lb bags of food or bigger if I can, do these come in a huge bag like that?
Thanks

I've not seen it at WalMart. But some WalMarts are different. You can check at yours. I always buy HUGE bags of food because I have 3 dogs that are 50lbs + I buy the 50lb bag. I believe it's $14 for the 50lb bag. I don't think that's a bad price. I buy it at PetSmart. I buy it because it doesn't have animal by-products in it & the 1st ingredient in it is beef. It's pretty good stuff for a cheap price.

Wow that is cheap and its a huge bag. Now I feel stupid I could have been buying this huge bag of food for her for only 14 bucks. 50 pounds would last forever with her.
Thanks for all the info.

LOL You're welcome. It might be more expensive in your area. But that's the price it is here. But it should still be pretty cheap. I'm just saying that so you don't walk in to PetSmart & see the bag of dog food for like $16 & think I lied. LOL

I purchase Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul dry dog food for my dog. I usually mix it with canned dog food. He loves it.

I purchased it from the pet supply store. It's made with fresh chicken, turkey, duck, salmon, and vegetables. I pay 9 dollars for a 6 lb. bag.

We feed our dogs Purina One. We used to give them regular Purina until I became aware of how much cornmeal is in it. Purina One is more expensive but it's much better for them.
We get the 55 pound bags at Sam's Club for about 25 each. Not too bad.

Wow.. Sounds like some people in this forum would just die if they knew how much I pay for my dog food. Along the lines of Timberwolf.
I prefer to feed him WOLF KING and other Solid Gold varieties. Canidae when I can afford it. The way I see it, feeding him a very high quality dog food will save me from vet bills that feeling him cheap, toxic stuff would cause in the long-run. :???:

yeh wolfking is good stuff
When I do have to feed kibble, I stick to strict rules.
Luckily I have a natural food store for animals near me so almost all the food there fits the criteria
The criteria being, the first 5 ingredients must be a meat item, NOT an animal by product and rice and corn as far down as possible! I also try to avoid dyes, that means there's less chance they used plastics as preservatives. ( that's right, some of these places use this substance that you find in warehouses with toxic labels on them to preserve the dog food so it can sit on the shelf longer )
And if I'm LUCKY, finding foods with Protein content to be at least 30 percent, the Fat to be at least 18 percent, preservatives to be via Vitamin E and/or C and look for Omega Fatty Acid as well.
So things like Chicken Soup for the dog lovers soul ( chicken soup for the cat lovers soul for my ferrets), Natural Balance, WolfKing, Innova...things like that
( here is a link to chicken soup you can find distributors in your area if there is any Holistic, Holistic, Healthy Pet Foods - Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul )

I buy it from pet supplies plus, it's the only store in CT that I found carries it. I can't remember exactly how much it cost, I know a 20 .lb bag is about $17, and the 40 .lb bag is about $35, my dogs really love it.
