I didn't know Tylenol could kill a dog. We've always given our dogs Tylenol when they were sick... our vet told us to.

thank you shep for stealing an exact copy of a section out of my most recent published book. you posted it word for word. Did you not realize that copyright infringement was against the law and you could face criminal charges as well as be sued?

I knew most of the above hazards but not that fabric conditioner was so dangerous to dogs.I presume it means if they drink it?

My mother in law leaves her fabric softener on the floor next to the washing machine. Her dog died after 2 days in the emergency vet clinic, I have to ask her for the particulars on that.

Default Additional Killer

Very informative list! I have one to add. I live in south florida where we have buffo toads that are deadly to smaller dogs (I have a cairn terrier). I have had one trip to the emergency room, but thankfully our little guy survived. Now I take a flashlight with me at night for safety, and also to keep on the lookout for those toads! (I have a very cool flashlight by the way, I use it for walks every night and I have never bought batteries - it is solar powered.. Earthtorch Solar Powered Flashlight.

Default you forgot Raisins and Aspirin

here s aconundrun though..
Bassethounds love Belgian Choloate. they ahve been eating it for centuries. Just make sure its not ALOT.. you woudl never eat a 5 pound bar,, dont let them eat an full size bar.
Carob is often usedin chcolate for pets!

We give our basset chcolate treats and hes fine. The probelm is too many time they are given it too frequently.
Rasisins are another nono.. butyet I ahve three that love fruit cake that Imake with boiled fruits. pples, orange peel, rasising, apricots.. so it realy depends.
We ahve had them climb up on tehtable ot get to apple and peach pie as well.

They like cheese bisuits, reakfast cornbread, liver, lasagna.. etc.
I think as a precautionar statement its good.
we have one baby that laaredy is showing signs of arthritis.. and we gave him buffered liver flavored aspirin> While pure, the vet told us that we need ot keep a bottle of Rimadyl instead. He recenetly had one baby come in with gasric upset from takeing two aspirin.

Our basset is allergic to American cheese. If ts not hardaged cheese he throws it back up!

I think like anything else, each baby is an individual and each has to be taken into consideration. As long as you dont go crazy with teat foods, there is littl erisk of anything happeneing. And another consideration that another vet told us, is whatteh daily diet consists of. If the diet s well rounded their systems can handle more treats than those that are restricted or controlled.

Default Thank you

Thanks for all the info. I knew some of them but not all that are mentioned. We have to keep an eye on our golden puppy, Belle, she is in to everything. We try to keep our house child proof and puppy proof, but there is always something. I used to work for a vet, and a small kitten came in posioned after eating/ licking commerical plant fertilizer, which the owner said was out, but the container was not open. There was also a dog probably posioned by a neighbor of one of our clients. ( it was never proven the neighbor did it) Unfortunately, In both cases the animals died .There was also a client who had dogs that got into mouse posion at her house (or a dead mouse) more than once. These dogs survived fortunately. Yes, more than one dog and more than once.

We had a cat once, in the stone age, that seemed to have eaten a mouse that had already eaten decon. Our cat died. This cat was maybe 10 lbs. so maybe that could happen to a small dog too?

My vet told me that it causes seizers. I have never had this happen to my dog but that is what the vet told me.

Exclamation Please Read!! It Could Save Your Dogs Life.

I recently lost my golden retriever. She suddenly fell ill and it wasn't until after she died that I found out what killed her. RAISiNS!! I made a apple pie with raisins and I must have dropped a couple and didn't even realize it. I had no idea that raisins where so toxic to dogs. I made the pie on Fri. Friday night she suddenly got up off the sofa and went into another room. My german shepherd went and stood over her and that is what drew my attention. She was laying in a puddle of urine - she never had accidents in the house. The next day she seemed fine just tired. I called the vet he thought that she may have had a seizure and said to just watch her. Sunday she threw up several times. Took her to the vet on Monday she died tuesday night. We are devastated. She was only ten and the sweetest dog. Please add to the list of toxins - RAISINS & GRAPES Tell other dog owners. Everyone that I have talked to is surprised to hear this.

Another thing that you need to watch out for is xyletol - the artificial sweetener. It can cause a lot of problems for your puppy. I had a friend whose dog accidently got into a package of sugar-free gum, and was nearly killed from the xyletol.
