Default MY Dog is allergic to fleas

We took our dog today to the vet to get her shots and get her tested for heart worms ( she does not have heart worms) but we did find out that she is allergic to fleas poor dog so he suggested that we keep her on the frontline all the time to help her out with this problem.
Has anyone else had this problem with their dog being allergic to fleas? If so what did you do?

First time I've ever heard of that allergy. What are the symptoms?

I've heard of this, I actually saw it on one of the Vet shows my daughter watches on Animal Planet. But I don't remember the symptoms. I wonder if that's what happened with our puppy. He got fleas, and then his skin got really dried out and he kept scratching, and his fur started falling out.

My dog has flea allergy... Shame I just can't afford flea stuff right now. But anyway, I guess the bites are a whole lot worse to a dog allergic to the bites. My dog used to have patches of fur missing on his back and stuff before I changed his diet to a high quality food.. Now he still scratches and bashes himself against walls violently, trying to scratch.. But at least his fur is healthy.
Dog allergy is no fun. I think the trick is to try and keep their mind off it. He will sit there scratching literally all day, and chewing himself up, if you let him!

As for worse reactions, I am not sure really. I would be suprised if all dogs AREN'T allergic to fleas...

I bought the frontline spray it will last you forever it cost the same as a 3 month supply of the drops. I paid 31 for mine I would look into this if I were you.

Where did you find the spray? All I've been able to find are the drops, and we would have to get 2 different sizes because we have a husky mix, and then the boxer puppy. So we would have to spend around $60 every 3 months to get the drops... I'd rather spend $5 on flea shampoo and give them baths.

I get the frontline spray from the vet it would last you for a long time or at least it does for us and it works just as well as the frontline drops. I paid 31 plus tax for mine it should last me for over a year or at least my last one did it lasted 2 to 3 years.

I've known both dogs and cats that are allergic to fleas. It really can be quite distressing for them.

I would look at spraying the home more than concentrating on the dog. Kill the fleas where they live and breed rather than where they feed and it should help matters.

You can buy stuff like Nuvan which is a strong insecticide and you can usually get it from the vets.
Spray your home quite regularly, leaving the rooms to air, and it should minimize your problems.

I have never heard of this dog allergy before and didn’t even think that a dog could possibly be allergic to fleas. I guess anything is possible though. And please don’t think I’m trying to argue with you here, I just found it “interesting.”

FrontLine is the best defense, but spraying the house and yard will help. Also, add garlic to their food. They will love the flavor and fleas hate the odor that will permeate from their skin.

Yes I have been thinking about giving her galrlic to keep the fleas away. I give my husband 2 garlic pills every day LOL so the fleas will not bother him. Yes and the Frontline I just bought the spray so she has not fleas on here right now. Thank goodness.
