Oh, so it is just dyed. Maybe I can just dye my dog. My dog isn't pure white though so I might not get the look that I'm expecting. Haha. Is it cruel to dye a dog? I mean it's just for fun. I know pet shops sell dyes for dog.

well depending on how well trained and behaved your dog is, the dying process may be more cruel and traumatic to you! hehee... the dyes they sell at the petstores are specially made to not harm dogs and they usually last about a month. I t would not be cruel, but you may get dye all over your house!

If anyone tries to "dye" their dog, you need to be very careful. I would check with your vet before using any type of dye product to make sure that it's safe on your puppy. My kids had a rabbit once when they were teenagers that they thought would be fun to dye pink when we weren't home... needless to say that ended very sadly.

I've seen those panda pictures before. They are adorable! There are a few safe ways to dye your pet. For a one time thing, like St. Patrick's Day, you can use food coloring or Kool-Aid mixed with water. This lasts through like 1 or 2 washes.
You can use vegetable based dyes for humans like Manic Panic. They are non toxic and won't hurt your dog, and are very vibrant. Your best bet is to use one made specifically for dogs, like these Dog Hair Dye Gels. They are completely safe for your dog, are CFTA certified, and last 4 to 6 washes. These are sold in pet stores and online. Never, ever, ever use human hair dye. It will hurt your dog.

Can someone explain to me why anybody would want to dye a dogs fur? What's the point apart from human vanity? I'm sure it isn't a pleasant experience for the dog and serves no useful purpose.

It doesn't really serve a purpose for the dog. I'm guessing that people just do it for fun or holidays. It isn't anymore unpleasant than a bath though. Its not harmful whatsoever or painful. (Unless a someone were to use human hair dye. That would be extremely harmful!!!) The dye doesn't have a strong odor or anything. I don't personally dye my dog, but we sell the dye here and it has the instructions on it and I smelled it out of curiosity. You just use it like a shampoo, sort of. I'm not wanting to argue or anything, so please don't take it that way. The same debate goes for dog clothes too. Some people hate them, some don't, some only use them for functional purposes, such as cold weather. I guess its a matter of personal opinion. I'm not really against it I guess, but I think its silly. I guess maybe it makes a little more sense if its a holiday, as opposed to just for the heck of it.
