Exclamation Neighbors dog always runs on road.. HELP

My neighbors have a dog that constantly runs out in front of cars on a road where people easily go 55 mph. You can see the dog laying on the side of the road and then all of the sudden it darts out. So, I drive past the other day, and guess what the dog darts out..and there are the owners and they don't say a WORD to the dog! If that were my dog, I would be frantic. Because not only is the dog centimeters from the car, he runs along side of you for a good while. I have been living here for 8 months and even in the snow, the dog does the same thing...to everyone who drives past (and they swerve, which is super dangerous on this road).

What would you do?? I don't want it resting on my shoulders that I kill someones family pet because they just let the dog do this.

i am pretty sure there is a by-law where you live that when dogs are outside they should be tied. you should maybe complain to the city or something.

and explain the dog runs out on the street and the owners dont do anything.

its almost a form of animal cruelty. or it is.

I would agre with Rox, however I would also report them to animal welfare as they are needlessly putting the dogs life at risk and also those who are driving the cars. Just imagine if someone has kids in the back and swerves to miss the dog. Doesn't bear thinking about and something you shouldn't turn a blind eye to. Don't let hindsight be something that haunts you. At least if you report it then your hands are clean.

I hate situations like this! We used to have a neighbor who let his dog roam free and chase the cars entering the neighborhood. he'd run alongside the car and sometimes ram his head into the side of the car! (he was a big dog)

We always were terrified we'd run over him, although we knew at the same time that darn it, he shouldn't be out chasing cars. Well, just as we were working up the nerve to go speak to the neighbor about the dog, he suddenly disappeared one day. We suspect he ended up chasing the wrong car.

Are you friendly with your neighbor? Could you mention this to them?

I've never actually talked to them before. What really irks me is the fact that this has been more than once that they literally just watch their dog. I think I'm going to work up the nerve to talk to them before I call anyone. Maybe someone can just give them a warning. I like animals too much to see anything happen to them whether they are mine or not.

I'd check the bylaws as well. I live in a dinky little village and the bylaws say that dogs have to be on a leash, in a fenced yard, or tied up. They're not allowed to run free. That's not to say it doesn't happen, but it's not often.
