Limits of size or weight?
I think there's a weight limit for dogs in our condo. There are lots of dogs here and they're all well-behaved.
Has anyone else had to make arrangements around a weight or size restriction where they live?

I used to see those when I lived in apartments. I used to wonder why they would set a weight standard, because how are they really going to know if a dog is one over or one under the limit.

There was a weight limit of 15 lbs in my college apt. I thought it was because they didn't want any big dogs living there.

I think the thing about apartments is that they want the dogs to be small enough as to not present a danger to the other residents if they get out and also to be humane - keeping a Great Dane in an apartment is cruel, really...

Yup, when I was living in apartments with Phoebe, if there were weight limits, it was always something like 75 lbs. or more, because the big dogs would just be so cramped!

That, and they probably don't want a huge dog running around and making a huge racket. You usually don't hear residents complaining about a poodle for making a ton of noise.

I have to laugh, not at you, my experience with poodles is so different than that. Most poodles and other small dogs really bark more than most larger dogs. the pitch however is different. Most small dogs have high pitched barks and larger dogs are deeper pitched. I can't stand yappy high pitched barks. I have had poms for many years and they drove me nuts, and the neighbors too,if they barked very much. I now have pugs and shihtzus and they are not yappy or high pitched.

I have been fortunate enough that I haven't had to deal with size restrictions (other than what I put on myself for the space that I live in). My mom, however, has restrictions...I think she's only allowed a dog that's about 35lbs or so.

A lot of people that rent out appartments in my part of PA won't let any pets at all... including aquarium fish.. (indoors or out) which I think is a bit out there. Luckily I have never been in that position. I have only rented one time in my life and had those retrictions (they even had property and a barn and wouldn't allow any outdoor pets either)... that was before husband and I bought any pets, so we were lucky in that respect. That killed me too after growing up with animals...3 years pet-free. Needless to say, that was my motivation to move.

My dogs are almost always too big for places that have size restrictions. Both my girls are over 50lbs & my male is over 60lbs. Unfortunately, that means that I can't take them a lot of places, even places that don't have breed restrictions.

I hate wieght limits in apartments! When my boyfriend and I lived in Phoenix Arizona and were searching for an apartment it was hard because we wanted a place that was going to let us have a choice of what type of comapnion we wanted to welcome home. But we had to stick with in a rang we could affored for rent a month and were having a problem with any apartment under $650.00 a month allowing larger dogs. An if they did allow it they had breed ristrictions on alot of big dogs like Rotties Dobies Pits and Shepherds. An at the time we were doing research on what breed of companion we wanted to bring into our family. An on the larger breed section we had a Shepherd and a Rotti. But we were also undesided by a Basenji dachshund and a boxer. So it was hard for us to deside. We at the time were really leaning tord the Shepherd or Basenji. An there was quiet a diffrence in size there and allowence at the residents. I hate that they put all these ristrictions on dog's size and breed. Espessially breed I don't think there is a bad breed just bad owners that make that particular breed get a bad rep. because they train them to do bad things and make them feared by many people. I now live in my own house in Maine and own a German Shepherd so i am happy. But I feel bad for many people that are in the same situation I was in just a few months ago. Because in the states the size and breed restriction is very common in appartments, and it is not fair!
