My dog does that as well. 1 out of 100 hundred he may lift his leg, but mostly he's a squatter. I've never seen anything like it. It's pretty funny.

I don't think this is really anything to complain about. The leg lifting thing always seems to be an ingredient for territory marking, which is not godd in the house.

They only lift their leg to better mark territory, and a great dane would obviously have some balance issues when trying to lift their leg. I know that my dog started to squat, because I think that it is just easier on him.

We had a Lab who did exactly the same. No matter what we tried (and I know it sounds silly be we did) he wouldn't or didn't want to lift his leg. It didn't do him any harm so after a few months we just left him to do it the way he was comfortable. He did this for the rest of his life with no problems at all.

My GSP, Bo, is 9 months tomorrow. He squats. As he has been visiting off leash parks and seeing other dogs marking, he has starting doing the same, but on at the parks.

how old is he?? its takes boys a while before they can lift their leg, so in the meantime, they just squat. this is especially true for such a large dog, he's got a lot of weight to balance and support!
but i definately woudn't worry about it

I have heard of male dogs that never learn to lift their leg. It's best to stop worrying, if you are, that is.
As for my dog, I just wish he would stop peeing on his front leg while he squats.

My boy dog doesn't life his legs when he pees. I guess because he is so small. Hehe. Actually, you can not even see him squatting when peeing. He looks like standing. Haha. But he does lift his leg when he marks places.
