i have an 8 year old boxer GIRL and for some reason, she feels the need to lift her leg when she pees. the only time she doesn't do this is when she's out in the open with nothing around her to life her leg on (bush, fence)!! and even then, she kind of squats on one leg with the other a few inches off the ground!! for the first half of her life (before we moved) there was a boy lab next door (they often played through the fence). could she have picked this up from him??
obviously this isn't something i'm worried about... i actually think it's kind of funny! could this really be something she picked up? is she trying to show off her balance?
has anyone ever heard of a girl dog doing this??

My female lifts her leg too but she does mark things like trees, fences, ect. when she does it. She doesn't do it in my yard but usually during walks and at the park.

I feel that she may have learned to do this as a puppy from my male toy poodle. She's been doing it since she was 4 months old.

Haha! That kinda funny. I don't have a girl dog right now but I had one before. She was so little and she would squat every time she pees. I never saw her lift her leg to pee. I wish I had. Hehe.

I've never heard of Boxers doing that before. I have seen husky females do that before. My friend has a husky female that lifts her leg & she said it had to do with dominence. So maybe that's why your Boxer is doing that too. I always thought it was kinda funny.

My mom had a little terrier that did that she was cool. I don't know why they do that though. I though males only did that but I guess not! LOL

Sometimes I see my girl dog lift her leg if she is well I call it marking her teritory.

I'm sure that they are just trying to get a better angle for when they are marking their territory. Especially if she only does it around bushes and fences, because these are standard marking areas for dogs. If there are other dogs around, she might just be reclaiming her territory.
