Default How to introduce a dog to my cats.

Hi all

I wondered if anyone had any useful tips on how to introduce a new puppy into my household, when I have two cats. I am a little concerned that the dog could get bullied by them!

It is quite likely that the cats will bully a new dog. It's their house and the dog is a large intruder. Keep them apart for a while but let the cats know that the dog is in the house (they will know anyway). Keep the dog on a lead when you first introduce them so that it cannot go for the cats. Don't force the issue, just let them be in the same room at the same time. Try to stop the cats from attacking, maybe keeping them in baskets initially.

It may take time!

I think that the truth of the matter is that they will either like him or avoid him. The cats probably couldn't really hurt him (Are they declawed?). Just keep an eye on him, and punish the cats if they try to beat up on the puppy.
