How often do you walk your dog?
I suppose the frequency of walking your dog depends on a number of factors such as time available, type of dog, availability of places to go..etc
However I wondered how often people walked their dogs - twice a day? More or less ?

I try to walk my dog as often as I can, but it tends to be a decent walk once a day - with maybe a shorter walk as well, if possible.
However, my dog has access to our garden all day and regularly comes and goes - she never seems to be able to sit still!!!

Ours go out daily, sometimes they might go out twice in a day if there is time and weather permits!
Some days they get a long walk, or we might go out somewhere with them for the day, and other days they might only get 20 minutes.

My small dogs run free in the yard, and I try to walk my big dogs 2 times a day. We live on 3 acres so I just walk the edge several times till Im worn out.

We try for at least 3 or 4 walks, that may only last about 15 minutes. Weather permitting, at least one hour walk a day. But, alas, winter has arrived!

Two or More Times a Day, Well if I got the Time
I would expect to walk a dog at least once a day, but it really does depend on the factors you mentioned. I mean, you've got to slip in a walk, even on a busy day. I really don't think there's such a thing as to much walking, well for a dog. My dog's too active. Also, if you can't walk the dog, you can surely fit in a little football, or doggy soccer. If I'm busy, it's only one walk. If you're wondering, my dog-the one I'm talking about, is a pothound. That's a mixture of a couple of breeds, but mostly Golden and Labrador Retreiver. Good luck, if you need to know how much you should walk your dog. Try telling some of us the names of the breeds of your dog(s).

I walk 5 of my dogs twice a day for an hour each, and the other dog once a day for a half hour. Then they get turned into their outdoor playing quarters untill night.

My Shepherds are left out every morning to run freely on some 5 acreas here. They are put in at night for safety reasons, feedings, etc. They get plenty of daily exercise and wormed monthly and fed the best I can find in dry kibble along with Bil Jac frozen meat.

The walk
You know its amazing how the "walk" has become a focus in mine and my husbands life. We have always had great dogs but our kids were our focus. Now that the kids are grown we have this new dog (for two years now) and we have really focused on training him. If we had him when the kids were little we would not have been able to keep him, he has many issues!!:!:
So of course we have learned how important the "walk" is. We both work nights but he gets home around 4a.m. and me around 7 a.m. So the poor dog has had to learn to be nocturnal. When we get up we each take him walking. Sometimes weather and time interfere but at least one of us walks him daily for about an hour. It is funny though at what a focus it has become for us, the kids are jealous and say we didn't do that much for them, (they grew up with us working nights). With winter and dark coming by 5p.m. I will set the alarm even for 3:30 in the afternoon and suck down a couple cups of coffee and a smoke to be out the door by 4 to get in a walk before dark. (Our area is way to dark, no streetlights in the country).
Anyway, the walk is the center of our lives now, lol.

Ours get a 2 hr free run in the bush everyday, they also have 5 acres of fenced in property to run in, somehow, they prefer to be inside wih us. When weather and time permit they get walked at night also.

I walk my dog everyday at 5pm with my neighbor who has a Bernese Mtn. We walk about 30 mins. When I have time I will walk Sydeny in the mornings when I am not in school.
Okay, so how would you go about convincing my neighbors to walk thier dogs more often? They walk their dogs maybe 1 a month! I have already tried the following: 1. I asked if they wanted me to walk them. They declined 2. They know they should walk them. I have suggested that. 3. They see me walking my dog 4. One of the dogs, jumps the fence.
I know that you can't change people unless they are willing but...
Anyone have any more suggestions? Thanks!

My girls get a long run in the field before I leave for work everyday(in the dark this time of year)...they run sniff out what's been going on out there all night and we play a good game of fetch. Then they are in a large fenced yard while I'm gone (we live waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out in the country). As soon as I get home I take them out for an hours walk. Then they get another field run and game of fetch during chore time (feeding the other critters, packing wood etc.). On the week ends, they get the same plus a morning walk. I love spending time with them. The more the better!
