Default Canned Food or Kibble?

Does your dog eat canned food or dry kibble?

I'd think most dogs would prefer canned...

My dogs eat dry food. I couldn't imagine how much money/canned food I would be going through with my Great Dane...lol!

We tried when he was a puppy and also tried table foods and it gives him diarrhea every single time.

I feed all of mine dry kibble. It is much better for their teeth than soft, mushy food. They seem to love it and always have.

I feed all my dogs dry food. They really like it. I mix in some table scraps occasionally. It would be WAY too expensive to feed them canned food. Also, I've always heard that canned food is bad for their teeth.

Well, my dogs are all spoiled. They have dry food out all the time and get a can of food (or homemade food) at 6 p.m. (And dogs DO know what time it is!! ) Then they get a treat after they eat - either rawhide, milkbone, homemade dog biscuits, or pig's ear. And, yes, it is expensive with 6 large dogs to feed. I've never had any teeth problems though. Of course they go to the vet to get regular cleanings when needed (which isn't very often) and my 14-year-old lab's teeth are as strong as ever.

I think it's only bad for their teeth if they're eating nothing but canned food. The dry food is supposed to help strengthen their teeth. That's what I heard anyway.

canned food is good as a side dish too...

but ive seen dog's teeth after a life's worth of mushy food.
and its not pretty.

but you should brush your dog's teeth to ..to prevent tartar build-up.

Exactly! Dry food does not prevent tarter buildup so regardless of the type of food fed, dogs still get "bad" teeth unless you take preventative measures such as some of the special dental food, chews and regular brushing. I have seen plenty of dry fed only dogs with horrible teeth.

Growing up, we always fed our dogs canned... Snoopy would never eat canned food if it had egg in the ingredients!!!

Smokey would eat ANYTHING!!!!

Default Ours are spoiled

Our nine are spoiled, our basset the worst.

We promised fartfignugen that he woudl eat only the best. So he gets boiled butter liver, chicken boiled in broth, whole salmon, mackrel, beef jerkey, and nightly treat of an ice cream sandwich, and when we are pit he eats Mcdonalds double cheeseburgers or Burger King triples, chcik fillet broiled. PLus he gets three different type of kibble. One is kibbles and bits, Gravy train extra rich gravy, and Beniful gourmet.

of oucrse they all ahve their choice of kibble, a different one every few days. They love the gainsburgers, Wet food we use as a mix in and thats usually pedigree or KIbbles and Bits variety.

I make them a huge pot of chciken soup slump every week, liver cornbread, cheese buscuit, breakfast cornbread.
Free feeding flavored milkbones, chewies rawhide) is great.

We mainly feed our dogs wet food. They are a little to old for dry food. Wet food is much easier on them.
