Default bad smell

What we have done is a bit drastic but it works.

activated charcoal or lime.
You can go to teh garden supply and get a bag of cahrcaol and a bag of lime. You mix both and spread on teh carpet. You ahve to sprinkle the lime under the carpet if possible.
Let it soak in for a fe days, and then vacuume it up.
then shampoo with a clearner available from teh vet and it will be kept clean smelling.

Another thingf you can consider is an indoor grass patch.
Under flourescent grow lights plant a patch of grass,, that way the babies have natural odor controlling area to wet and mess on without destroying the carpet after you get it cleaned up.
Your other alternative is artifical turf after ripping up the old.

Boy he charcoal and lime sounds like a lot of work. Have you tried one of the products that have enzymes that are supposed to eat the dog smells? In our nursery we use one of the machines that are supposed to filter the air.

Do you have a steam cleaner? I have formula for my steam cleaner that's made to take out doggy odors (well, pet odors in general, but I only have dogs). It's really not that expensive & if you already have a steam cleaner, you already have to buy the stuff for it anyway. Hope this helps.

Have you looked at any of those expensive cleaners that pet stores carry now. They have a lot of them, and the cleaners claim they can get rid of odors like urine and other things.

Those industrial urine cleaners look pretty good, and you might want to look into renting a steam cleaner for the weekend. Those things work wonders.

I think I've seen products for removing smells at my vet's office. Sorry, I don't remember what they were called - I assume they'd be similar to the ones available at pet stores.

Good luck...

We have had great success with a natural enzymatic cleaner. I believe they make both cat and dog formulas. It is a liquid that comes in various sized bottles up to a gallon. It can be diluted or used full strength depending on the need. For large areas a garden sprayer would suffice.

I am sure there are equally good products out there this is just the first that came to mind.

Our carpet scrubber is awesome. I don't know how I would have made it without it. We buy something called "Pet and Kids" from Wal-Mart available in the section by the other household cleaners. You can use it alone or in a scrubber - it works like a charm and really does get the smell out. It is the best thing we have used so far.
