What kind of leash do you use?
Do you use a long, short, retractable leash? I am looking for the best option for my dog while visiting the state park.

I have 4 leads. All are cotton canvas web leads. A 6 foot, for everday walking. A 40 ft. for long line training, a 15 ft, and a 10 ft. for gamboling walks, and fooling around. I would take the 15 ft. to a park, or hiking trip.

I have a 4ft nylon leash for training class and walks, a 6ft nylon leash for walks, a retractable leash for the park and a 50ft drag line for the park.

Looks like some of us are keeping the leash companies in business!

We have just a 6 ft leather leash for Bandit. We need to get another one for Courage, once we get him leash trained. We're using Bandit's leash on him for now... When we are working with him on the leash, Bandit is usually laying off to the side watching, & I swear he's laughing at Courage.

I think that dogs laugh at each other also. Hey, you have to listen now! Haha!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. My husband says its just my imagination. But my daughter agrees with me, so right now it's 2 against 1 in the house.

I have a retractable leash for each of my 2 dogs that we use out here on our country walks, as well as 2 show leads. I don't show, but I like that they fit high on their necks (for good control) when we are walking in town or going into the vets or pet store and they need to be right at my side with all the distractions and excitement that country dogs don't come into contact with every day. They work great and the girls know that when I put those leads on them, they have to be on their best behaviour.

That's a really good idea. Where do you get your show leads? I should try those.

I want to look into that also, it would be prettier than Rex's prong collar!

I bought the leads off a web link (no one around here sells them, even our most complete pet stores don't) ...is it okay to post it here? Some dog forums don't like you to do that. Let me know and if it's not okay to post it here, I could pm both of you with the info.

Well, no on has said not to so I'm going to post this link for you. Hope this helps. I really like this site.
Dog Show Leads - Snap Leads - Loop Leads - Slip Leads
I use the 17th lead down from the top. I've tried some of the others but I like this style best. It fits snug up high on the neck...just behind the bottom of the ears and up under the chin.

You're welcome! Gotta tell ya. This worked for GSD. When using that leash she is at my side, right where I want her. It took a bit of training, but since you have total control...the training came easily. Dogs don't have that pull strength in their upper necks. Let me know how you like it. It may feel a bit stiff at first but I think you'll find it a big help.
