Pitbull attacks? I think not.
Ok, I'm trying real hard here not to go into a rant about the whole Pitbull ordeal but I thought I'd post a clip of an article I read today on CityNews (City Tv) Here it is:
Woman & Pet Attacked By Dog In North York Park
Monday November 27, 2006
A woman and her pet are both recovering from a close encounter with danger, after they were attacked by a dog in a North York park Monday.
Police say a woman was walking her own dog in a green space near Avenue Road and Wilson during the afternoon, when another animal suddenly appeared out of nowhere and came racing after them. Cops rushed to the scene and were able to corral the animal and then took it back it its owner.
But while they were there, they called Animal Control, and those officers came and took two more dogs out of the residence - including a pit bull.
The extent of the injuries to the woman or her pet hasn't been revealed and there's no word yet on why the attacking canine was loose or whether the owner will face charges.
Ok, is it just me or does anyone else see something really wrong with this article? Why does this writer feel it's not important to name the breed of the attacking dog but feels it's necessary to mention that there was a Pitbull that shared at home with the attacker. Does it make it a sensational story? Now I'm not saying that the breed name of the dog is important because any dog can attack, but why go the extra length to name the breed of a dog that had nothing to do with the attack? Anyway, I was one disgruntled reader today and I fired off an email to them. It will probably go unanswered but I just had to let off some steam about this matter because I feel that the media had a huge part in the reason why Pitbulls are now banned in Ontario and I feel that they should be a little more responsible when reporting the news. Anyone else feeling the same way?

I agree with you, some dogs get such bad press. mainly pits. I own 2 dobermans they are great dogs who live with a 5 yr. old and 6 month old. yet everyone on my steet acts like they are just waiting to kill thier dogs. My pups have better things to do.

The media was born just to make the rest of us crazy. It is a plan you see, when we are all crazy, they can play video games.
Sorry, I had a crazy moment, just got done watching the news. LOL
If there is a Pitt or Dobe or even a GSD in a 10 mile radius of an attack for some strange reason it will be reported! Why? Clue me in too!

LOL Poohbear! I have a GSD and I sure get a wide berth when walking her around people who are stuck in that old mentality of "Vicious Guard Dog". I grew up next to a couple who bred dobbies and I often babysat for their children. They would come home late at night to find I had let the 2 adult dogs in to use as pillows on the sofa. They were such teddy bears! As for pitbulls...I've seen both sides of them. I've seen them loving family members who are friendly with everyone and I've seen the ones that terrorized the neighborhood....however, the ones that terrorized the neighborhood where owned by mean and cruel people who should never have been allowed to own any animal. Any dog has the potential to be vicious under the right circumstances. Upbringing has a lot to do with it. So, I say yes! Our beloved breeds are getting a bad rap! And I think it is ridicules that the article mentions the pit and not the breed of the attacker. That really stinks and just helps to continue the misconceptions of these breeds. Whew! K...stepping off soap box now...........sheeeeeeeeeeeesh, it's a long way down! LOL!

ROFL I took my 19 mo. old GSD to the supermarket parking lot, for distractions in his down. He was on a 10 ft, line, and people walked WAY AROUND him. Rex just looked at them with a kind of where are they going look. He wanted treats for being calm! LOL
Next time we took him to the grain and feed store parking lot, and these people had no problems. To bad I can't buy MY groceries there!

yeah i agree any dog can be a good dog...just depends on how you raise them... i have heard of some dogs in there old age turning on ppl.... but still any dog can do that.... honestly.... but if u train them right and love them...then theres no prob...what makes me mad is the stories u hear about kids bein biten and then the parents wanting the dog put to sleep.... now in my opinion... i want to know what the child did to the dog first, cause if ya agrivate a dog enough and the dog doesnt know u then ur likely to get biten... i have heard of some real good dogs that have been put to sleep because kids were teasing it or whatever and the dog looked to them as a stranger and a threat....i think ppl need to find out the real story before going and giving full blame on the animal...now dont get me wrong some dogs can be right out mean, but there are sooooo many great dogs that wont harm a fly... just all depends on how u raise them.... sorry got off the subject a bit....lol

I feel you on this one. I just rescued a pitt mix and I don.t know what all the fuss is about. The dog is not the problem, it is the owner. Dogs learn by example, and any dog can learn to be bad. No matter what breed it is. People just think they need to make a big deal out of nothing at all, and it deffinitely steams my clams!

Next time you will hear that pit bulls are aggressive dogs and some people will start unliking it even if they havent experienced having a pit bull... then they will start signature campaigns banning pit bulls...
sigh...

Glad there are growing numbers of concerns showing how friendly, lovely and heroic those breeds like pitts...

It's what sells papers and advertising spots. And the name of the game is the bottom line.
