Getting my Lab a friend!
I am thinking about getting my golden lab/mix a friend, he was in a really nice kennel for a few weeks while i was on vacation and he had a great time with the other dogs there, i think now he's back home is is lonley, now i know he will get used to being back with us but my boyfriend and i are thinking about getting a friend, we dont have a big house so we would want a smaller dog...
does anyone have any good advice for us? or know perhaps what type of dogs may go good with our dog?

i'm definitly not rushing into anything, i plan to check out the buy and sell, they usually have dogs, that's where i got my dog now from, and the SPCA for sure. and that's a good idea to take him with me when i look at new dogs.

I'm in no hurry to get a dog, just checking out the possibilites and contemplating the idea of getting another one, wont be right away thats for sure,
just one question though, why not get a dog from a petstore?

Thanks for the more information, i never have got a dog from a pet store, nore any of my family has. this is actually the first dog i have had (since i was like 1) and we took him from someone that was giving him away.
I will definitly keep that in mind about the pet store, i dont want to be part of keeping puppy mills going.
At the Kennel where my dog was there was alot of dogs coming and going ( he was there for 3 weeks) and 3 dogs that lived there, from when he very first went he got along most with A female dog they owned that was the same age as him.
The reason i was thinking about a smaller dog was just simply space/cost of feeding. We dont have a huge house or a huge yard, so two big dogs would be hard, but now there is a black lab that needs a home and he/she is the same age as my dog, i probably wont get it. but its tempting to try!
I think we are going to train this dog more and wait a while before we get another one, but another one is definitly in the future i love dogs to much to only have one!
Thanks alot for all the information and tips, they will really help when the time comes to get my pooch a friend!
