Default Ice balls between pads

Poor Sidney! Everytime I take her out in the snow (which she loves!!!!!!!!!) I have to pick snow/ice balls out from between her toes and pads! (She has very long fur) She'll be playing and having a great time and then all of a sudden she starts limping, comes to me, lifts the offending paw and looks at me with big sad eyes. And I know it's time to take my gloves off and warm the ice balls with my fingers till they melt enough to pull them out. Brrrrrrrrr! Then she's off and playing again until the next ice balls form. I've trimmed the fur in her feet (not too much because it protects her feet from the cold) but to no avail. Anyone have a hint as to how to keep iceballs from forming on her feet? Gretta (GSD)doesn't have that problem....maybe her feet are warmer and that doesn't give the snow a chance to form ice balls?????????

I am not sure right this second what it is called, but they do have a wax type thing for mushing dogs. You just spread it on their feet like vasaline, and it keeps them from feeling and hurting from the cold. I think I just got a new catalog with that product in it so, if I remember, I am not a good rememberer, I will let you know the correct name, and if I can, I will let you know which catalog.

Thanks for the info.
Poohbear, I should have thought of that. I teach a unit each March to my students and we follow the Iditarod dog sled races. Each student picks a musher and tracks him/her...keeps track of dogs etc. Anyway, Cabela's should have just what I need for her feet. Thanks for jogging my memory!

Apply a thin coat on pads and between toes.
Use weekly or as needed.
Very safe to use.

Thanks Poohbear! I'll pick some up. Checked out the Cabela website and they don't have anything that looks like it would work as well as this! For now our weather has turned mild...but it's only the begining of winter and I know the cold and snow will soon return. This time I'll be ready and Sidney will be more comfy. Thanks again.
