get down to their level for one. do not make sudden moves is a good idea too. just be calm and remember dogs have keen senses and know how we think at times too.

You shouldn't show them you're afraid of them. They can feed off fear. If you want to pet a dog, pet the smaller ones, or those breeds that are for the most part harmless. It's a common thing to have a fear of dogs. An easy way to get over it is to get your own. It helps.

Do not sneak up on them. Cautiously approach the dog, then slowly, start stroking it along the back. If it doesnt growl, then it is probably OK with you, but back off if it starts growling, dont get any closer. I hope you have good luck with the dogs!Hope it helps | |

I use to have the same problem. Well, first you let the dog sniff you, then it will possibility lick you(disgusting at first but then I got use to it). My friend had dogs and every weekend we hang out I always play with the dog and eventually I got over my fear.

Alot of people are afraid of dogs--which is a good thing sorta-you should never just automatically assume all dogs are nice and friendly--thats how alot of people get hurt from dogs..especially kids..i grew up with dogs and other animals -most were friendly-let the dog smell you first -just be still- remember the dog may be just as scared as you are-the dog will likely either wag its tail and kiss @ lick you if they sense you are friendly-or the dog will growl -its better to be cautious if you don't know the dog- dogs can sense your fear as they can sense alot of things--so go slow --i dont agree you should get a dog if you are that scared of them--its hard to care for something your afraid of---maybe visit a dog park where friendly dogs play together or a pet shop where there are puppies and they are in cages so you can get used to them at your own pace--good luck -Dogs are alot of work and do require alot of attention but a good dog is a great companion-not all dogs are mean.

You shouldn't be scared of dogs. If you want to fight your fear, find a dog that someone you know has or that you know is friendly (most golden retrievers are good to approach and are usually extremely friendly, but calm). Always first ask the owner if you can pet their dog, then put out your hand to let them sniff it. After that, put your hand down the side of their head to their neck. Never put your hand above their head to pet the top of their head. This scares some dogs and may trigger them to nip.
