If your working for that long, I wouldn`t get a dog but if you want a dog that b ad i suggest a lab! They are great! Very friendly but, when you leave them home alone they are still happily waiting for your return!

A hot dog. Save you cooking when you get home after a 16 hour day of work.

a Neopet...dude, 16 hours is way too long to be away for a dog...a cat could take it, but not a dog...you'd be starving him emotionally...and when would you walk and exercise him??? no, a pet is not a good idea with that schedule.

How about a hot dog, buy one every time you leave work, and don't forget the mustard!

The only pet I can think of for someone who works 16 hours a day is a fish. Pets need attention that you don't have time to give.

not a dog your better off with a cat, there easier to look after too and dont need much attention dogs do, they need walks about 4 times a day and a lot of attention

A cute stuffed animal... Gone for 16 hours a day, it would be unfair to the dog or any animal to be left for that long, not to mention the mess you would come home to everyday... Have you gone 16 hours without going to the bathroom? Or would this be a dog that is left in the backyard and forgotten about, then left to bark and annoy the neighbors.... Just not a good/fair situation for anyone.Someone said a parrot-I have one, they need a lot of attn or you will be squawked out of the house-not a good idea AT ALL!! So I would stick with fish.... I still think a stuffed animal would be best.

I honestly think you should not get a dog in that situation. It would not be fair to the animal.I was in the same situation for many years and I had cats. I know that is not the same, but they are far more self reliant but can be just as loving.

would you like to spend all that time on your own every day of the week , then to be let out if your lucky to go to the toilet. NO . Did´t think so .Dogs need to be look after just like people. If you really want a pet buy a cold fish at least it won´t be to hard to feed and it won´t answer you back

I wouldn't get a dog if you are going to be away from home for that long everyday. I would recommend a lizard, fish, or cat since cats do not need as much attention as dogs do.

no not really, theres no animal that don't need attention, 16 hrs would be an unacceptable time to be left alone (if you mean the canine type), lol if you mean a dog dog like a human dog, lol just pick up an ugly woman from a dating agency lol

A stuffed toy one would suit your lifestyle. Get one that come with batteries and a wagging tail so you can switch it on when you come home and feel wanted.

That would be really tough for a dog. They are very social animals and need quite a lot of interaction and contact every day. A cat might be good for you. They're much lower maintenance, can be left home alone for long hours and are still excited to see you when you come home. My cat greets me at the door right along with my dog. They also curl up with you when you sit down and love to play. Good luck!

I strongly advise that you do NOT get a dog. Dogs require a LOT of attention, care, and exercise. If you are gone 16 hours a day, then you go home and go to sleep and don't want to spend the time necessary. You can't even make it up to a dog who's been alone 16+ hours. Get a dog when you'll be home a LOT more, and gone no more than 8 hours, a regular time-frame for people working full-time with dogs.... Many consider leaving your dog alone for that long is ABUSE. Then you'll come home to a house that has been torn apart from the anxiety and lonliness.... Don't get a dog. Don't get any pets. You are not home enough to give anything the care it will need, except maybe fish. I see other posts advising a cat, and that is also the wrong pet for you. People think cats are more independent and can handle it, but they want your attention and presence as well. I have a cat as well, and she expresses her anger when I go to the movies if I've been home most of the day. Your pets want you with them, and it's that simple. A fish is the only pet you should get if you're gone for so long.
