well technically they don't start doing the whole, 7years for a dog equals 1 year for a human until their 3rd year. However you will see in the first year, that even dogs go through the terrible twos, and so-on and so-on. So its safe to say they're getting through the teenage years at the 2nd birthday. Call your vet though, i know it sounds like a silly question to ask a vet, but they can tell you for sure.
My vet says that the seven to one ratio is just an average over the dog's life and that in the first two human years of a dog's life, a dog will age to the equivalent of about 18 years old.So I would figure, if that's true, that a dog that is one in human years is about 9 or 10 in dog years.Dogs are techinically still puppies until they are about two years old.
Dogs have an average life span of only 12 years.Humans have an average life span of 85 years. Therefore dogs live only 1/7th the age of humans. This is why most people say that 1 human year = 7 dog years. But the dog is 1 year old after 1 year. Always.
