| | Guest | What's everyone's favorite dog food to feed their canine buddies?
I'm going to be a dog owner soon for the first time since I was a kid and as you all know, there's SO many dog food brands out there! I was walking around Petsmart the other day and was amazed at the variety. So here's my question to you....What brand do you feel is the best? Whether it be Iams, Eukanuba, Purina, or something else, I'd love to hear your answer and why it's your favorite....

I use Iams, it keeps dogs healthy and its a reasonable price, or Purina, it donates money to help shelter dogs. Eukanuba or whatever is way expensive when Iams gives more nutrients for a better price.

I used to feed my dogs Eagle Pack.I think the recent recall should be an indicator that all that variety we see in the stores is pretty much the same stuff in different bags.

If you care about if animals were tested on or not, you should look into it. I heard Iams is very cruel and tests on kittens and puppies.

The best storebought is Hills. Vets actually prescribe it. Also , if you happened to read the list of poisoned foods, you would see that the "premium" brands like Iams, Nutro are made by the same company that makes" Acme brand" dog food. This is, of course, my opinion, but I have confidence in a brand that makes a whole bunch of condition specific foods (kidney diet, joint health, etc) and is used by all 3 vets I've been to.

We feed our Yorkies, 'Royal Canin' because they make a food specific to the needs of that breed, (and other breeds as well). There is a brand out there called 'Wellness' that I would feed otherwise. It is the only brand that is FDA approved. Meaning, it is high enough quality that humans can eat it.Look at the labels of dog foods, you don't want 'by-products' and 'corn-meal' to be your 1st ingredients. Look for meat as your primary ingredient. Science Diet will likely be what your vet tells you to use, but beware, veterinarians get kick-backs from the company that makes SD if they promote it and sell it. SD is not bad necessarily, but there are better choices out there, just compare labels and you'll see the difference!

You should think about not only what kind of food, but how to feed! My neighbor has a dog that should be in the 25lb weight class and he weighs, now about 65lbs, looks like a inflated dog or a pig on small legs. Alot of people like to keep the food bowl full at all times so the dog can nibble when ever, myself I figure out the right amount for my size dog (also take in to consideration how much treats you will be giving daily), and divide it by two and give in the morning and the rest in the evening. I like dry food because it is better for the teeth, unless you will brush your dog everytime it eats soft food. I have a career in dentistry that is why the teeth and gingiva are so important to me. Pick the dry food you feel comfortable with, but I like to add some beneful the healthy weight that has vegatables in it, twice a week. I add some to there regular food by removeing a portion of the regular food. Yes I know dogs are not vegetarians, but a little added to the carnivores diet is a good practice. I do brush my dogs teeth, and inspect there teeth every other morning as time permits. good Luck! | |

I feed my dogs with Hills.Their coat is simply beautiful from it,and they never have problems with stomach. But I know quite a few people whose dogs had problems with Hills so they are now on Royal Canin or Eukanuba. In the and I think that you should chose one of super premium foods,or cook for your dog. Cheep dog food in the end turns out to be the most expensive.
