Yorkies are cute, but I personally like pomeranians and dachshunds. They are small, pointy nosed dogs, and they both look adorable as puppies ans they still look cute as adults. Cute cudly, dogs.

Lots of little dogs are yappy. Some little breeds are very nervous. If you are going to keep this pet indoors, then being a mom of a young teen myself, I would recommend a dog that doesn't shed or smell like a dog. We have 3 little poodles. They are very smart, very affectionate, do not shed, do not smell, and usually are mild tempered. You might research different breeds, some breeds are more aggressive than others. My vote is always for the Poodle! We have a teacup poodle that only weighs 3 pounds and he is full grown, and he is the sweetest little guy. I know you will pick just the right puppy for yourself! Enjoy! And don't forget, dogs need daily care, feeding, walking, fresh water, attention. You can't just ignore it one day because you are busy with your friends etc. Oops, I will stop, I am sounding like a mom now!

If you want a cuddlier I highly recommend a Pug. They want nothing more that to chill out with you. The only thing you have to be careful of is not to over feed them. They tend to get overweight.

One of the things you should keep in mind is upkeep. Some of the breeds suggested (including Yorkies) take a great deal of home grooming, plus periodic professional grooming, to keep the in tip top shape.

How much time, as a busy teenager, do you have to spend on taking care of your dog? Remember, this is your dog, so it's your responsibility, not your Mother, Father, or any other family member.

Up keep doesn't stop at brushing, either. You should be willing to feed and water, train, walk, and clean up after your dog.

Now, with that out of the way, there are several breeds that might be just what you're looking for. My personal favorite is the Dachshund, either miniature or standard. Of the three coat types, the long haired variety is the most loving and cuddly. Pugs are a good choice, as are Bostons. But be forewarned, they can be very noisy... they might snort, wheeze and snore.

And don't forget rescue pups. Though many will be mixed breeds, they need homes too, and can be wonderful companions; sweet, intelligent, and very loving.

You are not lying! My Boston wakes me up with his snoring! He also has horrid gas. But, of all the breeds I've had, he is by far my favorite. He is the smartest, most loving, and comical. He is a spectacular dog and a wonderful companion.

When I was looking for a second family member, I wasn't sure what I wanted either. I spent quite a while looking for a small mixed breed puppy but, to no avail. A friend suggested someone she knew who bred rough coated shorty jack russells. I fell in love the minute I saw my Lara. These are big dogs in the bodies of little dogs. They're intelligent, fun, very loving and constant bundles of energy who always want to either play or cuddle. However, being terriers, they tend to be stubborn and will test you every chance they get. There is never a dull moment with a jack in residence. They're so much fun to be with!!! I would definitely recommend this breed to anyone who has the time and energy to keep up with their exercise and play needs.

I want a dog the same. I would highly recomend the minitire schnauzer then. Becuse it doesn't malt, its not a yappy dog and the are extreamly good with little children and your age too. Hope you get the right dog

Being a 13 year old girl my self... i find that puppies are definitely much harder than i expected. I'va had dogs before but not my own one, my parents thought i was old enough to take care of my own puppies, i know lts about dogs, show me a dog i know they're breed and their breed personality, i know about dog utrition etc, so when i got my first puppy (around start of this year) I ... stupidly, rushed to a decision of a Jack Russell Terrier. I immediately fell in love with my Oscar... But boy was i stupid enough to choose his breed i mean they're an awesome breed, smart, fun always made me smile but even though i knew having a JRT wasn't the right dog for me i rushed my decision and bought him, now what? Well he became too much for me, a puppy is hard work. He barked and hwined and chewed my cell phone, my shoes, i couldn't leave him alone by him self in a room god knows what he's do. I couldn't have any alone tie some time to relax, boy it was hard but in the end i decided to re-home him. Now he lives on a 14acre farm land with another dog, I was left with a broken heart (plus you know chewed shoes and things :P) and something i can't fill with.

But then... i couldnt stand not having a dog at home so after further research.. I decided to get an older dog. A breed that suits my lifestyle. An exercise partner, someone that can listen to me, who will be there for me. A dog breed thats funny but still calm at the same time. I know that sounds impossible at times but now I found that dog.

Here is Luca my dog.
He's all the above. He's perfect.

So i know this whole post maybe meant nothing to you, but all im trying to say is that, maybe a puppy might not be right and that they are a lot of work and also to take your time and don't make the same mistake as me. Just my tip from one teenager to another. But if you are going to get a puppy, i think you should adopt! Puppies from the shelters are awesome!
Gud luck!!

Prisca, let me commend you on your maturity. It's not easy to admit you made a mistake, and it's sometimes difficult to do what needs to be done to correct it.

Rehoming your JRT to a farm was the right decision. These dogs were bred to be farm dogs. Their mission in life was to keep the barns and outbuildings free of vermin. They are busy, active dogs that need a job, and if they can't do the work they were bred for, they invent one that will keep them satisfied; killing you possessions! They've been popular for decades with stable owners, not only because of the work they do, but for some reason they get along very well with horses.

I'm very happy you found your perfect canine companion. Owning two "perfect" companions myself, I know just how rewarding it is when you have a dog (or two) that really click with your own lifestyle and personality.

Kudos to you. You've learned something that many adults still don't understand.

I would really love to help you out. As an upcoming dog trainer, one of the things that I love to do is help people find the right dog for them. If you would like my help I will give you a list of questions that I ask people and then give you a list of dogs that I feel would be a good match for you.

Good luck!
Trista
