For some dogs there is nothing bad with canned food. In fact in most cases it actually has more nutrients because unlike kibble the meats aren't cooked as long and thus stripped of all there nutrients. There are pros and cons of each type of food. However, the problem is not the fact that it is a canned food but rather there was a very serious error (or foul play?!) while processing certain ingredients. This is not the first time something like this is happened, and sadly will not be the last time. If you look back through history there are numerous occasions where a poisonous substance has made it into foods and has even killed people. For example arsenic was slipped into water, or there have been several e-coli scares in products such as bagged spinach, Odwalla, and in Seattle in the 90's at several Jack in the Box restaurants. So this should not be a reason to stop using a certain kind of food because it could pop up anywhere. However you should take great interest in your dogs diet and I suggest you get it the best diet you can afford. The higher priced dog foods are often made in smaller batches with higher grade meat. Unfortunately this does not mean they are free from ever becoming contaminated because humans can be careless, or even cruel. Home made food is awesome if you can afford it and as long as it is supplemented with all the oils and vitamins that are essential for good health (many of them get cooked out).
