I think you need to talk to a vet about the problem. Your dog can get Lyme disease from the ticks and die. I don't know if you can get into trouble or not, but think how miserable that fur baby must be. POOR DOGGIE!

GET THE DOG TO THE VET NOW! THIS IS ANIMAL ABUSE. YES YOU CAN GET INTO TROUBLE. There are several meds given to dogs once a month to stop the ticks from attaching to your pet. Also---YOU can be bitten and die from Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever or other diseases. Do NOT abandon this dog, take it to your vet ot a local shelter NOW

Listen. Your dog is like a human being. It is considered battery by neglecting. Your veterinarian or neighbor may accuse you of being careless, and causing your pet, unnecessary anguish.

Could your dog spend some time inside away from the grass and dirt where the ticks live? How about a wash with a strong anti-tick shampoo? A tick collar? There are insecticidal sprays and rinses that would help too. These take time and effort, but your dog will thank you. Be aware of paralysis ticks that can kill.Just imagine how you would feel if you were constantly being bitten by mosquitoes, the sting and itch would drive you nuts. Help your dog out, it can't help itself.

somebody could try to turn you in for dog cruelty. If he has that many, it's very dangerous to his health. I live in alabama, and we have lots of ticks here, but there are products that work. Not the ones from wal-mart. Try a preven-tick collar, we sell it at the clinic I work at, and I've heard people say that they don't see another tick for 3 mos. But before you use that collar, if he is infested he needs to be taken to a vet and checked out, they can remove them and test him for tick-bourne diseases.

Yes, you can get in trouble with animal abuse and fined and if when you go to court a judge could even have you do jail time plus a fine. If you need help call spca they know that sometimes people don't know what to do and they will help you fix the problem. Your dog is dying slowly because of the ticks and will die if you don't get it help.

your dog can *actually* die of blood loss, not to mention suffering from anemia. it's happens to moose & deer in northern ontario all the time. you should probably rethink being a dog owner.

You know what, i think that its possible you can get into trouble for it. i suggest you try and go to a clinic and immediatly get them removed! trust me you will be relivied and so will your dog. If this continues, i sadly suggest you move or give the dog up. its not fair to him to have 1000 ticks or more on his body! get help and fast!

First, take a breath. OK . Good. Now. Pick up your phone. Call the Vet. In the midst time, spend some time with your dog. Spend some time removing ticks that are already buried in you friends skin . Tweezers...etc. (Ticks like to back out..by way of heat. A hot match blown out. No fire). nothing that cuts into skin. Brushing with (a nice comb or brush) helps the animal. we do not notice ticks before there are 1000?....we sound like we are beyond prevention. we are not. Ahhh humans.....wish for animals sake I was a lion. Rrrrrfff....grrrrr. purr. Don't make me get my flying monkeys out!!!!!!

Okay... I think the message of going to the vet has been greatly inforced here... Keep in mind... if that many ticks are on your dog... they are also on your family... the same diseases that can kill your dog... can kill your family.
check out my website: .purplegreyhound.artsefest.com and look at the page for Lambie's Smile Fund... I lost my grey to Rocky Mtn Spotted Fever. I watched her literally bleed to death for a week because no one believed the first vet who said to treat and test for a TBD.
NOW... don't just go to the vet without knowing what to do or ask for...
you need to get tested for ALL diseases of ticks... get the full panel and be prepared to pay at least $250 for just the test... THEN you and anyone in your house should also get tested. You can have a pest control company in your area try to spray around your house... Use a preventive med on your pet monthly.. all year long! I don't know where you live... but you can email me privately if you would like more advice. Nothing you do will be 100% preventable... but not doing anything you have a 100% chance of having a tick problem in some form of another. Best of luck. Tina
