I have noticed a trend among my friends and I regarding our husbands. It seems that the men believe that is it so much worse to neuter a male, than it is to spay a female. I can't get my man to even consider it, he instantly yells CRUEL! But the spaying involved a total hysterectomy, that seems worse to me. Which is more invasive?

You know what most men are like . they sneeze twice they think they have a cold. And MAN flu is so much worse than anybody elses.So he probebly thinks it will be worse for a male doggie than a female because in their life everything is worse for man than woman.By the way i am not anti male just telling it as it is.----AGGY

Well as a man, I totally dissagree, with your conception of the manly race! I had both my dogs altered, and my girl had a hard time recuperating, each time she exhaled she murmured a cry. Had to ask the vet to increase the pain killer and it helped. You really can not judge all man kind by your husbands disposition. But with all that said once you get passed it, you have a much better partner for life and may well live longer as a result! Oh, my friend had a male dog he delayed getting fixed and when friends would visit them, he would pee on there foot and hump there leg,lolo. That was cool, he finally saw the light and had it done the sooner the easier on the dog it is!! Hope I was not too explicit to you woman of the much weeker sex!

I know this is a little off topic, but I just wanted to mention in all of this talk about how painful and invasive spaying is for female dogs.
If a dog is spayed before her first heat cycle her chances of ever developing mammary cancer are almost zero. After that, the longer you wait to spay the higher her risk for developing mammary cancer.Mammary Tumors (Canine)

As far as the men thing goes, I think they're afraid there's always the possibility they're next.
