Who's Your Daddy?
Hi..I'm new to the forum and need your input. I purchased my labrador retriever 3 years ago from a breeder whose kennel was immaculate, the puppies were socialized with their parents and children who live in the household. I was also shown the AKC registration forms for both sire and dam. I was encouraged by the breeded to register my puppy with the AKC for the benefits that came along with membership. I had no plans to breed or show my pet. I recently received a letter from the AKC stating the named sire for my dog is NOT his parent after DNA analysis was performed on one of my dog's littermates, dam and sire. Wanting to know exactly what was going on, I contacted my breeded only to be gruffly annoyed with my wanting to know what was going on. She very curtly wrote that my dog is the offspring of the sire in question and if I was so into investigating this matter, that she could have sold my puppy to someone else!!! Am I wrong for wanting to know who and what is going on? I paid $800 for the peace of mind of knowing the lineage of dog's family only to have this letter come from the AKC. I wouldn't mind it as much if the breeder actually sounded concerned and wanted to get to the bottom of this situation. But she continues to ignore the facts as documented by the AKC. I don't think she should be able to get away with this kind of behavior and she continues to sell puppies on the internet. What would you do??
