We have a 4 month old male great dane. We are trying to find a dog door that will suit him the best. Does anyone have ANY idea how wide (on average) male great danes are at the shoulders when they reach adult age? Most of the XL dog doors that we found are about 15 or 16 inches wide. Will this size work?
Does anyone have experience with dog doors for great danes? If so, please help!! We are new to this!

they are really great big dogs:

their minimum height : 28 and 32 inches (71 to 81 cm)
minimum weight falls: 100 to 120 lb (46 to 54 kg)

standards didn't mentioned max but on Guinness Record measured 42.2 inches at the withers (world's tallest dog), a great dane!

better think bigger for him!

I'm about to purchase a "Super Large" doggie door that will be used with a sliding glass door for my Great Dane mix. He stands about 29 inches tall - he was the runt of the litter. He weighs 113 lbs. I had my ex measure the opening of their doggie door and he said it's 12" x 19".

The standard doors at the home improvement places are: Extra Large 10.5 x 15" and the Super Large are 15" x 20" And unfortunately - the super large doors have to be special ordered and the price pretty much doubles to about $300. If anyone can tell me where I can buy one for less, I'd love to hear about it! Thanks!
