I love...
Dogs with attitude. Not mean or snotty... just the ones that can say a million things to you using only their eyebrows. I also love dogs that jump like kangaroos. As a trainer, I obviously don't appreciate the jumping up on people aspect... but their excitement that launches 6 foot jumps is inspiring.
I hate...
Pet Stores. Plain and Simple. Not the kind that sell food and toys... the kind that sell abused animals for $400.

Hi Everyone,I"m new here.I own & adore my male & female Shih Tzus.I also love poodles,Llapso apsos.I spend alot of money on making my dogs look & feel great.I don"t care for Pit Bulls,or boxers.I like gentle small dogs.I did own a beautiful lab named Coda. You have to have the Love, time & money if your gonna own or get a dog. They are not Ornaments. They need love attention(especially Shih Tzus)Healthy food, walks.Do research first on the dog that you want, educate yourselves on its needs/care.I went on a website about Vaccinations & was stunned at what I was reading.I"m having second thoughts about all the needles are vets are recommending. My female had a serious reaction to a combo of needles & almost died.Vet did not inform me of risks/reactions.I dumped that vet fast. You can give your dog Childrens Bendril before a needle.Check with your vet first before doing, but mine says its ok.Sorry for babbling here, nice to meet everyone here......Ontario-Canada Would love to hear from other Shih Tzu owners in Ontario.

I can't say that I particularly love or hate any breed since I haven't owned that many dogs and they've all been different breeds or no particular breed at all.
What I don't like is characteristics about a dog which would cause me to NOT want a particular breed. For instance, I don't want all the shedding that comes with having a Golden Retriever so I gave up on that dream. Although I don't like having to spend the money for grooming, I'd rather not have all that hair around the house and I'd rather someone else did the bathing and nail-trimming for me.
My mom has a Sheltie who is very friendly and sweet ... but he BARKS incessantly when anyone comes or leaves and that can cause/increase headaches! Compared to my Lhasa who rarely makes a sound, THAT is something that I hate ... not the dog, just that particular trait.

I agree and I think that people do not think enough about what characteristics certain dogs have and how they will mesh with their lifestyles.
I made this mistake when I bought my husky. When we were thinking of buying a husky, people would say "that's a beautiful dog," and when we had a husky people would say "quite the runner, isn't she?" We didn't have a fence, nor did we know how freespirited they can be. However, we were experienced dog owners and while she wasn't perfect, she was a decent enough dog.
I see people who get dogs who seriously don't look into the breed enough. What really stinks is that some people won't own up to the fact that they shouldn't have a dog, and we end up hearing about the animals acting out in vicious ways.

| Dogs....
I have owned several different breeds of dogs, from tiny Chihuahua's to lumbering St. Bernards. Each dog has had its own personality, and good habits or bad, has given me great joy. I currently own 2 Chihuahua's and a Chocolate Lab, and I love them all.
I always tell my husband that the dogs love me regardless....of bad breath, bad hair, laying around in my P.J's, etc. They don't make comments about such things, they comfort me when I'm sad, and always make me laugh with their goofy behavior.
I believe that a dog is what you make him/her. If you are dedicated to your dog, and give him the attention he needs, he will be the best companion you will ever know.
