Default Dog Separation Anxiety

After reading the article about leaving your dog alone for a period, brings up some questions, sometimes it is necessary to do so and the most time my dogs are left alone is 3.5 to 4 hours. because I have two dogs I wonder if this helps? Almost all dogs have to get used to being left alone once in a while, especially if we are going grocery shopping and the temp out side is very HOT. What is the most a dog could be left alone? My neighbor said they leave there dogs alone for 12hours at timess, I find that cruel, and they said there dogs can hold from alleviating that long. I know cats seem to do better then dogs in this area, any opinions???

Default hi there

i agree that leaving two dogs alone makes it easier and less stressful on the dogs. i disagreewith twelve hours however the law states that if a dog is leftalone it needs to have access to water shelter and if longer period food. if the dogs have this its legal unfortunatly no matter how wrong it seems. hope this helps xxx

Hi, I definentaly agree that leaving 2 dogs 'alone' is so much easier for the dogs. we had 2 dogs. (1 Sibe Husky and 1 mix, Male and Female) and whenever we put the female away from the dog even just for an hour or two the male would not stop calling for her. It is much easier if the dog has another there to play with and keep occupied. The 12 hour thing i would never try. Whenever we go away for a week or two (we now have 3 dogs) we give them to my cousin or have my cousins drop aroung everyday to feed and water them. I certainly would not leave my dogs alone for 12 hours straight. Hope this helps. And check out my other posts i have a few problems with my new pup. Take care, maxandbella.

Thankyou for your responces, I thought having two would help them when alone. My first dog was a male and after he pass on from old age, I thought we would never get any more dogs. But we did, another male, so when we got this third dog I wanted a female, if I had not gotten a female I would never have known how much better they do everthing compared to my males. One thing she does for a few minutes when we leave is sing,(howl) so my neighbor said, and my male dog at first would only listen to her , now he joins in, going to have to record there sessions, so far no one has complained, knock on wood! Oh, they are in door dogs, only out side when we accompany them.

Default Leavng your pet alone

I have to also agree. Our Cocker Spaniel luckily loves his cage which is where he stays during the workday. I feel guilty, but he is there for only about 8 hrs. I give him about a 3 mile walk in the morning. 12 hrs would be way too long to leave the dog.
