Shih Tzus or Chinese Cresteds
Hi everyone I am new to the forums. I just wanted to know if there are any other owners of Shih Tzus or Chinese Cresteds, and if maybe you can tell me a little about your experiences with them...
I have a small Shih Tzu and she is the light of my life, very smart and funny. My Chinese Crested is just a character and very beautiful smart dog! I would love to hear from you!

I do not have a dog at this time, but am also considering a shih-tzu. I would be interested in knowing about training to house break and if they suffer from any particular health problems. Also wondering about grooming expenses.

I have 4 Shih Tzu. They are wonderful little dogs! Very smart and very good at getting what they want! lol They can be a bit obstinate at times and do occasionally need gentle reminders about where it is appropriate to potty but overall, they have become my favorite breed. They don't shed and although I keep mine in full coat, you can shave them down if you want to to lessen the grooming duties and they are still adorable either way. I also like that they come in different colors. They are friendly, good with children, just totally terrific!!

Hi I live in Barrie Ont.I own a female Shih Tzu yr and a half old,& a male Shih Tzu 7 months old.Chloe is black & white,Gentle Jake is white & cream. Both dogs have a great tempermant. They don"t like to be startled.Jake is playful & so gentle.Chloe is the boss & thats it.The female rules here. She becomes aggressive if Jake tries to bother her,but other than that they are great dogs who don"t like to be alone often.Theres always someone home here with them.I don"t walk them in Any Doggy parks as they are infested with doggy do which is not good for your dogs or healthy. They run in my fenced yard or are on leashes at all times.Chloe had a severe reaction to a combo/needles it was scary.Having second thoughts about all these needles they want to pump into them.Doing some research on that & I suggest all dog owners out there do the same.Would love to hear from other Shih Tzu owners.

What to feed your dog.....
I don’t think the type of food matters unless your dog requires a special diet. What matters is consistency. Regardless of breed, experts say that you should feed your dog around the same times each day, (Morning, Afternoon, Evening) establishing a pattern with eating and going potty. You should let your dog eat for 10-15 minutes. After that time, if he hasn't eaten his food, take it away, and save it for later. If you leave the food out for the dog to nibble on throughout the day, they will most likely become picky eaters, and snub the food you do try to give them. If your dog goes a day or so without eating, it doesn’t necessarily mean that there is something wrong with him. My dogs sometimes lose their appetite and then suddenly find it again. If he goes longer than 48 hours without eating, you may want to contact your vet.
Hope this helps you.
