Question Pitt Bull Information

My boyfriend wants to get a pitt bull in our apartment and insists that if properly trained that they are not violent. He says that they have a bad name from the media playing on their violent reputation. I do not have a lot of experience with these types of dogs except for his family's 2 year old pitt bull who is very sweet! My family is warning me about a getting a pitt bull and say they won't come visit my apartment if one lives there. Based on my boyfriend's family dog, I don't see any violence in this breed, but am I being naive?

Any thoughts???

If brought up and trained well a PBT can be an outstanding companion for any family situation. Whilst your familys respose is not uncommon, it is certainly an indication of misunderstanding the true nature of the PBT. Reality is that the PBT should always be outstanding with humans, regardless of their breeding history for fighting, which may present the possibility of dog aggression, the PBT also has a long history of human companionship and friendship.

If you bought from a really good breeder, who is able to proove not just physically sound animals but also tempremenatly sound animals, and a breeder that will offer you continual after purchase support and advice, you are starting with one foot forward already.

If your BFs family already own a wonderfully natured PBT, there is a good chance that with his knowledge and their support and understanding that you could very well repeat that same sweet natured companionship that they have with the existing PBT.

As far as your families reluctance, it is now the opportunity for you to educate them, and teach them that so often nurture NOT perceived nature is the best way to have a well behaved dog in your home. It might be worth them meeting BFs families dog as well, so they can see a sweet PBT at its best.

Apartment living for a dog that size is not the best option. Dogs need a lot of exercise or they could develop behavoral problems. And not just Pit's. You have to ask yourself are you willing to put in the time and effort into your dog. Like having a child. Animals are not for you to try out and see if it works. Really think about if this is something you really can do. You should think about a smaller less energy dog. Remeber it's not only about what you want it's whats best for the dog too. Minn
