pls help me i want to know if my dog is in heat? she is 1yr. and 5mons old now.. my dog breed is a schit zhu. her vagina is swelling in the past 3weeks and a white sticky liquid is coming from her.. what does it mean?

Hello there.. I also have a female Shih Tzu.

It is very common a female's vagina to become swollen when she's in heat. However, the white discharge you are describing is not normal during a heat cycle. You should contact your vet. White discharge and swelling could signal a vaginal infection (such as vaginitis) which she would need to be treated for.

The only fluid you should notice at the onset of the dog's estrous is the menstrual blood.

you should have your dog spayed asap, that would have saved you this vet bill along with the probability of many others.

it is best to spay at about 5 months, before their 1st heat.

i believe your pet is already in heat... if you dont have any plans of breeding then i suggest you follow suebgone's advice.

Hi,I own a male & Female Shih Tzu.So far Chloes heats are June & Sept.Shes a year & half old.Is it possible for her to be in heat more than twice a year??The first signs for anyone out there to know is she will lick alot down there,swelling will occur.My female hangs like a saddle bag lol when in heat.If your not sure always bring to your vets.Make sure you RESEARCH...& EDucate yourselfs about Vaccinations for your dogs.Mt female had a combo needles done at once & ALMOST DIED.Most needles given to your dogs ARE NOT NEEDED!
