Well, I adopted a German Shepherd pup about two months ago from the shelter. She's wonderful and well-behaved. About two weeks ago, a stray pitbull came up to us and was so sweet and seemed so hungry... so I took her in. The intention was to clean her up and then take her to the shelter to find a good forever home. As it turns out, upon further research, Oklahoma shelters almost immediately put down pitbulls! She's amazing and smart and loving, there is no way I could take her to just be put down at 8 months old!
My question, or plea for advice, is this: what would you do? My boyfriend thinks I need to work harder to find a home for her. But I've posted on a few different sites, and have gotten a few responses, but none were willing to have me visit their home before handing over the dog. (My boyfriend doesn't live with me, so I don't know why he's complaining. He says he doesn't want to see me struggle)
I don't make a lot of money because I'm an AmeriCorps VISTA (VISTA stands for: Volunteer In Service To America. It's kind of like the Peace Corps but in America) and it's a year of service being paid poverty wages as part of the experience. But, I've had her for two weeks now and have found a clinic that helps low-income familes get their pet spayed and her up-to-date shots for only $40.
This being said, I've had her for two weeks and have been managing fine. I budget well, so I feel capable, especially upon the discovery of the low-cost clinic. But, maybe it's not fair to keep a dog if I don't make "more money"?? I feed a wholistic diet to both of my dogs using a well rounded kibble. They have toys, love, and I've researched both of their breeds fully. Is it enough? What do you think, dog lovers of the world?
