Unhappy HELP!!! My Dog got hit by a car and ran away!

My Puggle, Wilson, was hit by a car this morning. The second after it hit him he darted off and no one knows were he is. We've called the police and animal shelters as well as animal control and searched for him for hours but we can't find him anywhere. Any ideas as to where he may of gone?

I checked in my bathroom, and sorry he's not there. When I take my dog for a walk I'll be sure to keep an eye out. Good luck!

He probably didn't go far, and may make his way back home once he gets over being frightened. Check with the vets in your area, just in case he was injured and someone takes him to a vet.

Look for things he may be able to fit under. I've seen injured animals cram themselves under all sorts of things, very often decks or even large rocks. I think it's an instinct for them to hide until they heal.

Good luck, I hope you find him soon!

I thought it was a little strange yes. Maybe they know eachother. I hope you are able to find your baby!! That's terrible. It's hard when they run off like that. Hopefully she is tagged. She is less likely to be "kidnapped" when she is injured. More than likely someone will bring her to a local vet.

think of the place that your dog usually hang out and hide when he was frightened...probably he was there...but if not you should survey the area you last saw him and asked the authority....

i have bad news and good news.
the bad news is..
well, it's strange for dogs to run away from home.
i think the main reason is because if you were there,
and when the dog got hit you started yelling at it,
or maybe even just trying to catch it,
it thought you did it.
dogs are very complex sometimes.

my dog got hit by a car and when my mom went to go pick her up and rush her to the hospital, she was biting my mom off for about 3 minutes.

the dogs go through whats called trauma and shock.
they are in so much fear they forget things for a while.

the reason your dog ran away is because it was very scared and going through that stage where it was trying to hide from danger.
dogs aren't good at finding their homes but they will go where you always take them for walks, or the places they love most.

your dog will try its best to not to be visible to the human eye since it may be hurt, and knows it can't protect itself if so.

the good news is that ALL dogs come home before they die.
what i mean by that is,
if your dog was to die,
it would come to the front door,
dogs ALWAYS die at thier houses.
cats are the oposite.
anyways,
take care and good luck finding him!

Very.. Bearded Lady seems to be a very malicious young child (at the self-proclaimed age of 12)

There's a reason why children should be supervised. ILD is a very nice forum, and i'm sure the majority of us would like to keep it that way. I hope BL's BS insensitivety catches up to them one day.

Did you manage to get your dog back? The exact same thing has happened to us. Our dog got side swiped by a car, then bolted down the road. I tried to chase her, but after 45 minutes of running I had no luck. I think she was okay, but just in shock. However, we have been around the streets at least 10 times and have had no luck. I have contacted vets, the animal shelter, the pound and various individuals. Does anyone have any ideas? possibly stories of hope. We miss our border collie
