Hello Sissy,
I don't want to step on toes but....are your dogs registered? Have you done any health testing on them? I hope your not breeding just because you want puppies. When you say your male is "proven" what are you meaning? I know what comes to mind when someone says this, I just was curious as to what you were meaning.

First of all I have some questions.
By "proven" do you mean he's a champion or just a previous stud?
She needs to be champion quality (either titled herself or from titled parents) as well.
Has she had her back health tested for the genetic diseases that dachshunds often get?
Is she 2 or is she close to 2 years old? If she's not health tested, not from proven champion lines and isn't 2 years old - you shouldn't be trying to breed her.
Do you have homes ready for her pups? Do you offer a health guarantee? Are they even AKC registered? Do they do any kind of work/agility/shows and have any titles on them?
If not...don't breed. Educate yourself, get things set up right, then do it later.

LoveMyLabs asked some VERY good questions! This is just my opion, but NO dog should ever be breed before the age of 2 years and without health testing ect....Breeding your dog should only be done to better the breed not just because you want puppies.

Sissy,
No one was being rude to you. We were just explaining some very important facts about breeding. Breeding dogs shouldn't be taken lightly.

Never heard of a "chamonship", lol. Perhaps you mean CHAMPION. So how old are your dogs? Do they have great temperaments? Do you have homes lined up? Are you prepared for everything that could happen?
If you think this is rude you need to rethink being a "breeder".

Hi Sissy,
I will answer your question with out being judgemental. It has happened to me before when I was breeding the nepolitan mastiffs. Sometimes if you take the female away from the male for a substantial amount of time, and then put her back with him, he may become more interested. Is she actually standing for him yet? It is very frustrating when it happens I know.. and quite frankly I think a few answers you received were judgemental and not helpful..

fatboy aussie bulldog, thanks for your advice.
i put them togeather, he was trying, but nothing happened. took her for a smear test, vet said would be ready, next couple of days. love labs, do you show your dogs? have they had all there test done? i think, you should only breed to improve the quality of the breed. love labs, you must not have a life, you just enjoy being rude to everybody. people come her for advice, not to be talked down to.

Hey Sissy,
I forgot to mention, a tease male was what eventually got our male interested. We took the female away, and let another male near her to get his smell (we chose a much smaller breed, a friends staffie, and stayed with them at all times as we didn't want cross puppies aaargh).. we kept her away from our male for about 6 hrs, then put her back and he was interested straight away.. professional horse breeders use this tactic all the time breeding thoroughbreds and using a shetland tease male! When she is ready, she will stand with her tail over her back and her vulva pushed out and up.. so do it then. I hope you are successful!

Sissy, first of all, calm down. People ask questions to get answers. That works both ways. If you don't state in the beginning whether your dogs are registered, are being shown, and have been health tested, the only way people have to get that information is to ask. It's not necessarily rude, it's just asking for more information.
So I'm going to ask even more specific questions. Being a Dachshund owner and past breeder, I'd like more information. So, not being rude or judgmental, here goes.
When you say your dogs have been health tested, what exactly do you mean? Have you had their eyes certified? Have you had baseline radiographs of their spines? The genetic form of intravertebral disc disease is often visible by age 2. Have you availed yourself of any DNA testing?
Being a Dachshund enthusiast, and having had a breeding disaster in the past, I'd recommend you wait until your bitch is at least 3. Dachshunds are very prone to epilepsy, and it usually doesn't become evident until around 3 years of age. That is not to say if it doesn't happen by age 3 it won't. But you're better off waiting to see if your bitch might develop epilepsy before you breed her. If she does, you definitely should not breed her.
There are other genetic disorders you should also keep in mind, and do your best to determine if they exist in your dog's background. Diabetes, Von Willebrands, Cushing's disease and Hypothyroidism are the major ones. There are others.
A tease male is a good idea. You don't have to use an intact male, though. You can use a neutered male. That way you don't have to worry about accidental breeding. If all else fails, you can also enlist the aid of your vet for artificial insemination.
Again, I am not being judgmental. The only way to get answers is to ask questions. And you'd be surprised at the number of people who think all you have to do to breed dogs is put a bitch and dog together and wait 9 weeks. So without asking, we have no way of knowing how much work you've put into preparing for breeding, or if you know what to do if something goes wrong.

Sissy,
They were not being rude in any way. You have no idea how immature you sound. I dont think lovelabs is planning on breeding, and if he/she was, well, they seem pretty knowledgeable about breeding dogs. Personally, you dont sound too educated. Its hard to believe you show dogs when you cant even spell CHAMPIONSHIP. And what kind of health testing was done? I feel bad for the poor little puppies that you are bringing into this world that will most likely end up in shelters because the person breeding them was far too ignorant to listen to what the more experienced, educated people had to say.
You say you supposedly show your dogs and all, and you think these people are being rude? Pft, Id like to know where a lucky person like you has found such polite people at dog shows. Seriously, grow up, and welcome to reality.
Sorry if this is coming across as mean, but, like I said before, welcome to reality.
EDIT: Nicely said vetgroomer.

I show my dogs and I'm polite to people lol But Sissy, everyone that has replied to you have given you great advice and you did do the right thing by asking....if you don't ask questions you'll never know! But just slow down a bit and do some research on your particular breed. It may also be a good idea to check out some web sites and if you have any questions don't be afraid to email the breeder!
