This morning we went to the local animal shelter looking for a new friend for Chevy , since Nala had to be put down. We went to a little cage containing a black pup and a brindle. We choose the brindle and the lady said that a woman had found 5 stray puppies in a bad neighborhood in San Antonio. She left them in her back yard and when she came back the next day, one was gone, one was dead and the other two had bottle rockets strapped to their necks! They had managed to light the one on the brindle causing serious burns to his neck and back. The lady took them to the shelter and they said they were full, so the lady took them to a near by vet and had them boarded for there weeks, costing over $1,000, until there was room in the shelter. The brindle is an 11 week old male who is a lab x pit, named Zane. I will get pictures of him once he wakes up from sleeping under our coach.

that's sad... i hope they can find new homes for the other puppies...

Oh, we found out by looking at multiple pictures that he's a boxer x lab cross. He paws at toys, food and us. This morning when I went up my drive way to get the paper, we live in the country, he walked ahead of me and grabbed the smaller of the two papers we get and walked back to the house with it in his mouth.

What a pretty boy! So glad you were able save him. And how smart that he already knows how to retrieve, without even being taught! He sounds like a real "keeper."
