washing
I take my dog to the dog park every day. Before we leave, I rinse the dog off with a hose to get the dirt off of her. Is this too much "bathing" for the dog? If so, should I put any type of lotion or oil on her so that her skin/coat doesn't dry out from the daily wash down with the hose? She is a Terrier Mix, 6 mos old.
Thanks:

If you're just washing her down with plain water, no it's not too much washing. Plain water removes dirt and debris, but not much of anything else.

This really depends on the breed you have. With too much washing, some dogs will lose the oil that keeps their fur healthy looking. But again, because your are not using shampoo it's probably not too bad. Just to be safe, I would check out some breed grooming characteristics before continuing.

Just don't wash too much so the normal oil he extracts will remain there.

I think washing frequently with a hose is common. As long as your purpose is to wash off dirt, then I think it's okay.

From my understanding, only water will not cause any issues, using a really good brush though could also take out much of the daily dirt too, and the advantage over hosing down is that one your dog stays dry and is ready to go straight into the house or car without making a wet mess, and it stimulates the skin and helps produce some of the natural oils.

I agree. Washing your dog will not harm your pet's skin or coat. It won't even dry them. But if you're still in doubt, you can try to put a small amount of coconut milk to its coat to maintain its shine. You can also want to try putting a mink oil spray, just a small spray gives the coat back its natural shine.

I've been wondering about this myself. Thanks for clearing it up.
