Why Some People Hate Dogs
I love dogs. People on this site love dogs.
But that does not mean that everyone we come in contact with loves dogs.
For example. One of my neighbors loves to let his trained dog run around on his front lawn that's not fenced in.
Mind you, this does not bother me because I know the dog but some people on the block are scared to death of dogs.
Recently a woman walking down our street stopped walking and called the police from her cell phone when she spotted the dog running around on the lawn without a leash.
She was cared to walk past the house of course. My neighbor was ticked off when the cops showed up right away.
My main point, just because we love dogs does not mean that everyone around us loves dogs so be careful and try to keep this in mind.

Great points and you're absolutely right!
AC rules and regulations vary from place to place, with some laws stricter than others. In my area, dogs are required to be registered with the city and must be leashed at all times when not on personal property. Of course this is not always enforced but AC and or the police can be called on unregistered pets and animals that are loose. Owners are then penalized by paying a fee.

Another example is in the opposite extreme of the woman walking down the street: A lot of times, when I'm walking my dog, always on a short leash, some young males we encounter might try to provoke her by teasing her/barking, howling, etc. This presents a problem, since she has the potential to become aggressive toward unknown males. I realize that much of the time, their behavior is actually a cover for their own fear and apprehension, but I don't really understand why they express their fear in this manner. I always have to rebuke them, telling them not to harass my dog. They shut right up then, and even back away.

Other people just have dog phobia. My mom is scared of my dogs, when they bark at her.

People are different. What if everyone is farmer and no one is professional? All we can do is to let them understand and care a little for dogs.

Some people hate dogs because dogs are more faithful than them.

Some of the people who don't like dogs may have had bad experiences so let's try to understand them. When I was young, I didn't like dogs, even our dogs because they bark at me all the time but things are different now.

Generally, I find people who don't like dogs are not very pleasant.

I find a lot of people who do like dogs are not very pleasant. Some people simply don't have the interest in animals we do, and it's arbitrary. And we should respect it.

I have a friend who hates dogs because he says they're too high maintenance. He loves cats tho, which is alright, but it does match his personality in that he's possibly the laziest person I know.

Could it be because they are "cat people?"lol.I'm still trying to figure that out as well.
For me, I love every dog ^.^ I don't find even that dog Sam (who one the ugliest dog contest) ugly.
Some people think they're smelly.. because, well.. sometimes they can be. Like when they're wet..
I don't know why some people think they're boring. Maybe they've had a lot of encounters with old and inactive dogs. I still find those dogs fun, though.

That's right... But they should also do something about it like consulting a Psychologist to resolve their issues.

Well, lets put it this way! Most people, whether they like dogs or not, may be uncomfortable with dogs running off leash in an unsecured area, especially if they are larger breeds.

Yeah, not people loves dog. Some are scared of dogs maybe because of their past experience with dogs or they've been attacked by dogs before. I think as responsible dog owners we should consider these facts.

I will admit to be, untill having a dog of my own, very reluctant to handle dogs. I was not scared of them, but having never grown up with dogs in the home, and parents (particuarly mum) who always declared dogs a dirty smelly animal, this same mind set passed on to me to a degree.
I would admire the good looking dogs from afar, but would never get too close. Even now, whilst I love and smooch my dog all the time, I still dont handle other dogs heavily.
Its funny really, because whilst this has always been my behaviour around dogs, every dog I have met has always loved me and have tried to force themselved onto me.....LOL I was destined to learn to love our canine friends i think.

I think a lot has to do with how a dog perceives people as well. Dogs are sensitive and not always will they go up to just anyone. We have a Rot on the property that is quite a big baby but if someone going by him fails to acknowledge him, he will get up and run at them this creating an issue of fear in the person. All he wants is for you to just say hi and he is fine.
I was in a home recently where the owner is a breeder and shower of West Highland Terriers. After coming into the house the owner noticed that the one female was literally attached to me and followed me around everywhere. Shortly after we sat to discuss some improvements she was looking to have done in the home and had let the other 4 in. Without realizing it, one had jumped up on the right side of me, another on the left and another was on the back of the couch behind me. I did not pay much attention as with 16 dogs of my own, this is normal for me. She sat across from me with an odd look on her face and before I could ask if something was wrong she noted that she had never seen them do that before that they are offish with strangers and generally just avoid them. She then remarked that I was definitely a dog person more so than anyone that had been to their home before. I was surprised to learn that hers are the ones on the Animal Planet Portland dog show that is aired regularly. Hers had been winning since 2000.
Dogs do seem to know what people are receptive to them and who are dog lovers as opposed to those who are not. I have had dogs following me home since I was a little one which started me in rescue many many years ago.
I have found if you can overcome being reluctant or fearing a dog they will sense it and are more open. But they do sense this in people.
