when does the teething stop???
Hi there just a question about my puppy, she is 4 months old and I know she is teething and I have brought every teething toy there is is she still feels the need to bite me, not my husband but me, my slippers, shoes, hands, legs etc. I have realized the difference between the play bite and teething and the mean bite (like she has almost broke my skin twice) I have read in the books to replace with teething toy when she feels the need to bite but she is sometimes out of control. Any suggestions???? Do they make a doggie Anbesol Thanks Sophia's mom

My dogs were done teething by 5 or 6 months. Most dogs are done at the latest 6 months or so. Give your puppy something appropriate to chew on. Mine loved the rope toys...and I was happy to give it to them to keep them from pulling up carpet!

I don't know if it makes much of a difference, but I hear it acctually works better if you say NO in a very loud and high pitched voice. That way it startles them and they stop and wonder what they have done.

Yes, it does make sense. A high pitched, painful squeal is the sound another puppy would make if bitten too hard. So, in doggy language, it makes sense. Using words like OUCH or ENOUGH also makes sense. They sound more like the yelps and squeals another dog makes than NO does. And while it does startle them, they figure out pretty quickly what they've done, LOL.

It's just a phase your puppy will grow out of. Just be sure not to encourage it.

Try to give him other toys and you may start to introduce negative commands so that he will know how to behave properly.

Hi. Strangely I wrote an article about this recently.
From our experience the best ways are-
Make a yelp and stare at her for a few seconds. If it doesn't work leave the room for a few minutes. This reinforces it is not to be done. If yelping doesn't work then growl. This really works well.
Put some garlic or chili on your hand and/or all items that are being bitten.
Socialize your dog as often as possible with other pups and dogs. Doggie etiquette is soon learned.
As soon as it starts give a toy to play with.
Make sure plenty of natural outdoor exercise is had. Not long walks at an early stage but outside playing where the dog can stop when it is tired. A tired puppy is a happy owner.
Now the one that will work overnight.
Get another dog! A bit extreme but we never had a problem with biting from the day we brought home another dog. They just played and nipped and bit and jumped with each other and left us alone!
