I Met A Pit Bull Today
I've been starting to learn more about the breed and in recent months have really started to see how wrong I was about them. Due to my fears I was very wrong (I knew a someone growing up whose brother was bite pretty bad by one)
Anyways this was my first real interaction with a pit bull.
I just started my new job (I work in a grooming/boarding hotel) On my first day I worked with about 10 dogs.
The best dog I had was a Pit bull. She was so sweet. She let me do whatever I needed to do for her (bathe her, dry her, clean her ears, etc....) and didn't make any fuss. She just sat there and tried to kiss me the whole time.
She was probably the best dog I had (And this was my first real interaction with a Pit Bull) I loved her.
I'm super impressed. (my mother freaked a little when I told her but I told her how good the dog was, she has been telling me my whole life that they aren't good dogs but this one sure was and I'm sure there are many others out there just as good......My husband was pretty supportive though so that was good)
I liked her!

I was so wrong about the Pit bull.
I know I've hurt so many people due to my past fears of the breed?
How can I make it up to them?
I feel maybe learning everything I can about the breed and trying to help the breed, since I think that is the best I can do.
I just feel I should do something to help the breed.
I can never go back and apologize to all those people
And this dog was so great (A true ambassador of the breed)
And this dog Poor thing had a tough start too. And to be so good after all that Wow

Cool! I love seeing when people notice how sweet pits are! They are not as mean and nasty as some people make them to be. They just need a good firm owner.

yeah I am changing my mindset too- even though I just heard 2 pitbulls killed a lab - Its all about being bred right and proper ownership. I detest irresponsible owners but the breed was originally a family dog!

I just never really knew. I guess all it takes is one. But I'll tell you I trusted that dog just as much as I trust my own. And I don't normally do that.
I hope in this journey I meet other Pit Bulls and I am starting to believe its how you raise them.
This girl she was raised right

I used to be semi-afraid of them too, but when working at a kennel you had to overcome that. Some were the best dogs ever, even better than a Golden mix we had. One of my favorites was Daisy Mae a PB/Boxer mix.
One way you can help fix it is to tell people, that you meet now, that you were wrong about them and that they do have great dispositions. I agree with the one poster who said it all depends on how the owner trains them. It's not the dog's fault, it's solely the owners. And that's great that you had a good experience with them!!

directed mostly toward jv17 comment .
yes some pit bulls are trained to fight ! how ever there trained to fight other dogs . mine are trained to catch and kill hogs how ever they come home and play with my brothers kids ages 3 5 7 not left alone with them since its stupid to leave any animal around small kids . how ever they take down and or kill hogs weighing around 100 -400 pounds with tusk that are razor sharp up to 5 inches long . never had a bit of problems with them around any one even the kids these are pit bulls that have had the taste of blood in there mouths and experienced kill's . what this prove its simple the breed animal aggressive not human aggressive. how ever there something like 5.3 million pit bulls and pit bull mixes in the united states 92 deaths in past 45 years . so yea some times a hand full of them go stupid and attack and kill people but here something interesting .42,636 people die in car wrecks a year that 116.81 deaths a day pit bulls kill 2.08 people a year .humans kill more people with cars in one day then pit bulls have in 45 years . its kinda shocking that pit bulls get a bad rep when it really people who should be banned from driving since just in car wrecks we kill 116 .81 people a day . thats not including all the other things we use to kill people makes you think a little .251 million people drive cars most learn from parents /school how to drive yet they still kill 42,636 people a year so as humans we kill more people with cars then all the breeds of dogs combined and people say pit bulls or dangerous i say man kind is far more deadly then any pit bull or any dog period
