| Sick dog....need to inform breeder but can't find the breeder......what to do?
Okay so I got my poodle from a breeder when he was 9 weeks old
Okay so she really wouldn't qualify as a breeder but this was before we knew what back yard Breeders and hobby breeders were.
Anyways both vets said that his parents never should have been bred together.
You see first issue he had was one of his testicles didn't want to drop....luckily it did before he was neutered.
And the other issue is....right at a year of age he was diagnosed with Acute Pancreatitis and now he is a year and a half and that has progressed into Chronic.
Once again we were told his parents never should have been bred together.
Well his illness has been costly but I don't care we will do whatever it takes to keep him happy and healthy.
But should we continue to try to locate his "breeder" and let her know this and warn her against breeding those two dogs together again.
We have tried to locate her but we don't remember her name all we know is the town he came from.
I don't even know if she would listen if we did find her...we have been trying to track her down.
(His sibling was stillborn so he was the only puppy of the litter)
What should I do shoud I keep trying?
Or just let it go at this point and hope she doesn't breed again.....(her dog almost died in the process so she said she may not breed again)
What should I do?
By the way the vet believes this is inherited because of his young age and the fact that we have kept him strictly on his dog food his whole life....(never any table scraps)
Though poodles are prone to this
What if we can't find the breeder.....I mean we've been looking for 6 months now.
We don't have her info.....we didn't end up registering him because the breeder messed up the paperwork (we found that our after sending his registration forms in which had all her info)
Should we keep trying....
She just needs to know never to breed those two dogs together again....
This was just a lady who bred her two poodles out of her home......my mother in law found the dog for us in the local paper in her old town........we drove 4 hours to get him. She used a stud service I believe (both her dogs were female)
He is our first dog...
(Our other dog we adopted from a rescue)
Atleast we have him.....he could have ended up with someone who wouldn't care for him

The common back yard breeder will find you as an annoyance and ignore whatever you say. But I think I would at least "try" but not put a full effort into it. Just focus on the now and getting your baby boy nice and healthy!
Also, what food do you feed? Because a vet told us that my Luna (chocolate min pin) was pre-pancreatitis. Anytime she ate anything but her food, I'd have to give her an anti-vomiting and an anti-diarrhea medication. But when I learned about nutrition I started feeding Solid Gold just a wee bit. Now she is on Merrick's Before Grain Salmon. She has NO signs of pancreatitis and her yearly blood tests now come out perfectly clear. She hasnt thrown up in I dont know how long and she rarely gets the big D anymore.
Im not saying that your dog does or doesnt have pankreatitis, but I just wanted to relay my personal experience.

Ever since he was diagnosed the first time he has been on California Naturals Chicken and Rice (its the only food he has ever been excited about) though the vet suggested switching to the Low Fat Chicken and Rice (which he was on and doing well....we got the regular this last time)
I will tell you at first he was eating Purina Products(Well we were force feeding him he wouldn't touch it, smart boy...and then I starting looking into the Natura Products and around the time of the first diagnosis I switched him)
They feel if we put him on low fat he will be fine
(As soon as we can get out we are buying the CN Chicken and Rice Low Fat.....he did so well on it....I'm kicking myself for getting regular the weather isn't so good Ice storm)

Sounds like not so responsible breeder. I think all you can do is to spread the information and some warnings about what happened to you dog.

I was told with Luna that she was ingesting too much protein and was also told to switch to a low fat food. She was eaint Purina Beneful ops: and we were told to switch to Iams Low Residue. Turns out it wasnt that she was on a food with too much protein but it was that she was on a poor QUALITY protein. Now that she's on Merrick (which is like 40% protein) she is doing fantastic. Dogs with sensitive systems are usually allergic and having reactions to grains. Has he ever had an allergy test to possibly rule out what might be causing this? And to add, I know a lot of dogs who are allergic to chicken. Its a common meat because its a fairly inexpensive meat. I would suggest putting him on possibly a fish based food as those are always easy on the tummy!
This is according to Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble The first ingredient in this food is a named meat product in meal form. This is the sole meat ingredient in the food.
The second and third ingredients are grains – both rice and whole grain. This is decent quality. The remaining ingredients are oil and vitamins/minerals
Overall this food is a good quality product and contains good quality ingredients without any harmful nasties. It is a food aimed at dogs who suffer from allergies with only three main ingredients. This enables us to be reasonably confident that there is a minimum of 30% meat content in the food, since the meat meal ingredient is listed first of the three ingredients that make up the vast bulk of the food. This is enough for us to give this food a four star rating, but a higher meat content would be required to rate the food more highly.
This food would be highly suitable for individuals that suffer from allergies, sensitive stomachs, or as part of a rotation with other foods that contain different meat protein sources and a range of fruits/vegetables. | |

Oh and to add to the fish based foods, they are always good and smelly so it really makes the dog want to eat it!
Another trick is to add about a spoonful of pumpkin to 1 meal a day. You can get regular canned pumpkin (just make sure its the pure pumpkin, not the pumpkin pie mix) It will make him want to eat the food AND its really good for sensitive tummies! I use it as a kong filling and then freeze it. BIG hit in this house!

Yeah what we are on is the most we can afford at the moment. But no he has been tested and no problems its just his enzymes are up and its back. He's not allergic he just has real bad tummy problems
I like the Natura Products and the California Naturals Chicken and Rice is the one we can afford....
They said if we switch back to low fat he should be fine.
(We were told Innova wouldn't be good for him....it would actually make it worse but the California Naturals would be best. they are made by the same company. He is excited about his meals now atleast since we've been on California naturals)
(We went from Purina (we switched after he started getting sick) to Maxximum Nutrition to Diamond Naturals.....and then right around the time he was diagnosed we got on California Naturals (low fat)
He did great on the low fat for 5 months then the last bag we got wasn't low fat but still California Naturals and then he had his flare up so they said go back to low fat)
