Should I say something.....friend/relative got a 6 week old puppy
We all know this dog still needs to be with her mother? Six weeks is way too young.
I also know they got this dog from a BYB (and from experience I know the troubles a dog can have from bad breeding.)
She is a cocker spaniel (also I don't know how great this dog will be with her two small children)
Anyways I'm more concerned for the puppy than anything.
I want to be happy for them but I know this dog is way too young to be away from her mom and I know the issues healthwise and behaviorwise of bad breeding and leaving mom too soon.
Should I say something?
(I think around here you aren't supposed to sell a dog before 8 or 9 weeks of age but I'm not sure (and I know it happens anyways)
I just know with all of Zackies health problems I feel I should say something but I don't know.
I mean we learned the hard way what a BYB is and what a Good Breeder is
Let me also add
They also have an 8 year old Dachshund. He is not good with other dogs so I don't know what they were thinking.
I don't want to see this new dog end up in a shelter.

Yes say something. But have resources. Google things like "Taking a puppy away too young" and give her information. Whats done is done but it will give her special tips as to what to do now and hopefully teach her for future reference!

Many people are stunned on puppies and little bit changing that when the pup gets old. You should say something, or suggest some reference for them on how to care that too young pup and also how to deal with their other dog.

I can't believe that person got a dog when their other dog isn't good with dogs. They should've paired them up first to see if their Dachshund would go after the puppy. That being said, yes I do think that you should tell your friend but in a nice way where it doesn't look like it's their fault as it isn't. That type of info should've been researched.
I heard Cocker Spaniels can be good with children, but like any dog you have to give them proper socialization. Also if this was a breeder, let your friend call someone (I don't know who, sorry) to warn people that this person sells puppies way to early for them to be taken away.
By the way, what's BYB mean?

Since you know them (friend/family) it will be easier for you to tell them what you think is right... I think they will appreciate the concern...

Puppylove,
Before I adopted my male cocker spaniel I did allot of research on the breed, temperment and why they (especially males) end up in rescue. It seems that inappropriate breeding (BYB's), there is an increase incident of cocker aggression--especially toward children. Cocker's are a sweet, "soft" personality dog which gave them the reputation of being good with children but they really can't handle young children. At least this is what I read from quite a few sources. I think the BYBs don't pay enough attention to the temperment of the animals they are breeding which perpetuates and intensives the potentially negative aspects of the breed.
I would talk to your friend in a non-confrontational fashion just to let them know that they need to supervise their children's interaction with their new puppy so that the dog can be socialized appropriately to children. I'd also suggest that they take great care in the raising of their new puppy to ensure a positive result. I hope they plan to spay the dog.
