My puppy will not eat
Hi Everyone,
I have a 3 month old Newfie puppy who will not eat. We have tried everything, taken him to the vet, changed his food, still nothing. He should be chowing and he will just eat a couple of kibbles. Last week he had to stay at the vet for IV solutions and a die test to make sure nothing was wrong. The vet told me that he will eat when he gets hungry, but I just do not understand it. Any Suggestions??

The brands you have listed are very crappy brands of food.

Check out that site. Feed 4 stars or higher for the best health.
I feed Merrick Before Grain Salmon. Merrick makes a brand called "puppy plate" that i believe is a 5 star food. Since you have a giant breed dog, you want to avoid too much protein because it will cause them to grow too fast and then have joint problems. So thats why I would suggest the Merrick Puppy Plate food.

Sorry, I meant to say the brands you listed in that other post.
You can also add things to the food to make it appetizing. I have yet to meet a dog that doesnt enjoy a scoop of canned pumpkin on their food. Pumpkin is very good for tummies and dogs cant resist it.

I agree with pumpkin. What was the food your dog eating before? If you think there's wrong with your dog, better seek other pet advice.

Maybe you should bring your dog to the vet so that the doctor can give him some meds. Or try offering him other kinds of food.

If your dog has poor appetite and refuses to eat the food you are giving could lead into more serious problem like stomach discomfort, nausea and even vomiting due to the bile and excess stomach acids that build up when there is no food in the system. Try giving him water or soup for more appealing taste. And seek vet's advice on what medication to give him.

We have been to the vet and spent about $1500.00 on test to make sure everything is okay. I have tried different types of foods. I was just wondering, if any one had suggestions on a different food. The first thing we did was take him to the vet, I am a responsible pet owner.

No one is suggesting that you aren't a responsible pet owner. That's just the first thing everyone will ask/suggest because it's important to first rule out medical reasons.
I don't know what you've tried feeding him. Since you are dealing with a puppy, puppy requirements are different than adult dogs and their needs also change as they mature. Rather than give you an answer too general to be of any real benefit to you, I'll point you to someone who can help with your specific situation: The Possible Canine ... tell Cat I sent you.
In the meantime, have you tried cooking up some chicken or liver or beef heart and including that with the dog's quality kibble? (Quality is not necessarily equal to costliness--some of the expensive brands are worse than the cheaper brands.) That would at least get the puppy eating and give you time to get going on a diet that he will eat and that will be good for him.
Sometimes, it's just a matter of letting them skip a meal or two so they are hungry enough to not be so picky. Only do this if the puppy is healthy.
I cooked up this recipe for my dogs (not newfies) and they give it two paws up...: http://www.bullwrinkle.com/Assets/Re...ast%20Bars.htm

Try giving him some cooked red meat or some chicken. If he doesn't eat that, then you might have a serious problem.
