Default Is there a way to predict mutt size when grown?

Hello I am a new member, and I posted this in the new member area as well sorry if that is a no no...wondering if anyone had any experience, pictures, advice on how to gage the approx size my new mutt puppy will be once grown.

He is Lhasa Aspo (3/4) X Chow Chow (1/4)

Mom 100% Lhasa >weight approx 15lbs > height approx 11-12inches
Dad 50%Chow x 50%Lhasa >weight approx 25-30lbs > height approx 16-17inches.
I cannot find any info or pics on this particular mix of breeds.

My new little man looks like a lhasa, is longer in the body and shorter in the legs... but he was almost dbl the size of the other pups in litter.
he is 14weeks and weighs approx 10-11bls now, not sure of the height or length.

He has a ver sweet submissive, yet playful temperment...surprizing for the mix. But makes me very happy...his temperment is why we desided to get him.

Thanks in advance.

T

First of all there is no way your dog is a mix between a lhasa and chow.

Especially if the mom was a Lhasa. She wouldn't have been able to carry the puppies to term

Mom and pups probably wouldn't have made it

Your dog probably won't be too big.....

I'll tell you though our mutt was predicted to be 15 pounds full grown.....but she is 25 pounds and we had to move because she was over the weight limit

There is really no way to know unless you know the exact breeds

Default Yes there is a way

You are correct in that the mother would have had difficulty carring and delivering chow pups. This is what I ask of the vet.
The Vet knows these dogs and knows the owners and the mix. This is a very reputable vet...
Maybe this was a case irresponsible breeding or an accident as they said father dog was a few years ago...

There were 4 pups in the litter all had found homes at 8-9weeks and mine was the last to go at 11weeks.
Vet thinks he was last due to his size and people not wanting a large dog...he was destined for the animal shelter.

But as I said the father was 50/50 (Chow / Lhasa) and he was only a few inches taller and maybe 10lbs heavier than the mother. And yes she did have troubles delivering the pups this is why they were at the Vets. Mom stayed there the last week or two of her preganancy and the pups were delivered there due to troubles and once they were able to go home they did but the vet was following their care, and helping home them. So they would not end up in the shelter. This was not a purchased pet it was a rescued animal.

Also note the fathers mother being the paternal grandmother was a female chow who bread with a male lhasa...in turn producing pups that were not all chow sized...I guess they were about half the size once grown but still larger than a lhasa

Soooo I also thought the same thing when I was told lhasa x chow...and the poor mother dog had to go thru some trying time durring her pregnancy, altho vet said my baby was the only large one of the litter the rest were approx lhasa new born size.
I did not elaborate on all this because its a long sort of confusing story...

Anyway I trust this vet and the info I was given. And with dogs I think where there is a will there is a way especially when we are talking about mating...

Thanks
T

Default his toung has alot of black on top and bottom.

Another thing to add I met the mother dog...she was definately lhasa...or at least she looked it. And was the size of a lhasa I would say on the heavy larger side but my grampy and aunts owned lhasa's and she was not much bigger than them.
And all the babies had blue/black tongues one completely blue/black... mine has blue/black bottom (underside) and alot of black spots on top side. I know other breeds have some black spots occassionally and this is not fool proof, this is just an observation.

And my vet agrees there was chow in the line some where
