Puppy food, recommendations
Anyone want to recommend a decent puppy food? and to follow up decent dog food.
I am currently feeding my dogs Beneful...and I hate it...I have convinced hubby that this is not good and I at least wnat to go back to Blue Seal which I had great results with.
But I have been reading and seems that Blue seal is not highly recommended either...Altho better quality than the crap my husband has decided to go with!
I will likely go back to Blue Seal...but just want some others experiences...
I have mutts...
1- 7yr old female Lab x Golden (active)
1 -7yr old femal Lab x Rotti (semi-active Knee & Hip issues)
1 - 14week old mutt puppy Lhasa Apso 3/4 x Chow 1/4 (yes I know this mix is not possible but it happened!)
Now I don't want to get into a food I cannot get around here and have to rely on ordering and waiting for shipments, so I want something readily available most places.
Any recommendations?

No problem
You can go to the foods website and usually do a store look up. Just google the brand name (Example would be Merrick Dog Food) and it will pull up the website.

I also recommend Merrick or Blue Buffalo (not to be confused with Blue Seal)

Because Vets are not nutritionists.

A vet tech friend of mine said that the hills (science diet company) send their top product seller to the bahammas every year! They sell it to get their vacations for free! Vets DO NOT study diet and nutrition. I once asked my vet about the food I was feeding and his reply was you probably know better then I do, I have no idea about what foods are good and bad.

Here are a few rules of thumb when food shopping....
The first ingredient should be a named meat product. Foods where the first product is a veggie or a grain are bad foods.
The first few ingredients being a named meat meal are good (like chicken meal, turkey meal, etc) Just saying "chicken" is chicken whole, meaning with water (which is about 80%) The meal is the dehydrated chicken/meat product, which contains a good amount of protein
No good food will have corn in it. Period. Even if it is way down on the list. Dogs are allergic to corn and cant digest it, but its used commonly because its cheap.
NO BY-PRODUCTS! Example chicken by products means what is left over after the meat is gone. Which is beaks, legs, bones, etc.
The first 3 ingredients make up the brunt of the food. So all three of these ingredients should be good ingredients. Best if it at least two of them are a meat or meat meal.

Lots of gain (especialy white rice). Meat meal is ok but meat is better (such as Chicken, Beef, etc.) You don't see pork in dog food very often... what brand is this? Also contains an artificial stool hardner (beet pulp) which is often sugar based. Overall this looks like a 4 star food so you can do better but you can also do much worse.
